Angel,

I don't have that lens but I am going to buy it in November. I feel it is a very good lens to purchase. I believe you will be happy with it. Don't let plastic deter you as plastic can be very strong and light weight at the same time. It's a great compliment to the 18-55 kit lens (which in my opinion is a great all purpose lens). Check out Amazon.com's reviews. :)

There are a whole bunch of different types of plastic out there. Remember the old heavy black dial telephones? They were plastic - bakelite. Many parts of airplanes, including cockpit canopies, are plastic. Plastic is ubiquitous. You can't get away from it. Plastic mounts have been used on cameras for many years. They are inexpensive, provide a better light seal that metal on metal, more flexible (less likely to break) and are lighter. Personally, I'd like to see more middle-priced lenses out there with more plastic to lower the price. As to camera bodies, try to fix a crack in metal with a hot table knife.

Have that lens on my D5100 and am happy with this lens. Ken Rockwell lists this lens as a great buy for the DX camera. It is listed as one of the dream lens's for DX. I posted a few action shots at my granddaughters softball game. Thought they turned out great and comments were nice.
Now, in saying all of this, if I had to do over, for the bucks, it still is a great buy! Good luck with your purchase!

Good lens with adequate light source. I find it to be a tad soft focus at max focal length but can correct in post editing. Here is a recent sample using this lens. 8-)

I think it would be a good addition to your camera plus it won't break the bank. 8-)

I have a 55- 200 mm f/4-5.6 g ed and am happy with it. Any of my posts that show a focal length above 55 were made with that lens. Note the for the older posts there was a cheap filter on the front now the images are much sharper w/o the cheap filter

No problems with the plastic parts but the 55-300 is a significantly superior lens.

And if money isn't much of an object the 18-300 is better yet...and you hardly ever have to change lenses.

PS: I have an extra excellent 55-200 which I'd sell for the going price...you establish it. PM me if interested. I got it from my daughter-in-law when I gave her my 55-300 because I got a 28-300 for my new FX camera.

If you take as good care of your plastic mount as the metal mount you should have no problems. I've had a plastic mount for several years on one of my lens and it's still as good as the day I first bought it.
