ManRay 1 recently posted a thread about C & W music and the Blues, and I mentioned that in England in the 60s the only C & W music we got was via AFN, "American Forces Network", on our transistor radios tuned into Germany on a Saturday night for the Grand Old Opry.
I got to thinking id there are any Hoggres out there who remember AFN?????

I'm pretty sure it was the AFN that brought Casey Casem's America's Top 40 to our home every weekend- in Germany. As a kid in the 70's, it was my "link" to USA.

U.S.A.F., Berlin Germany, Tempelhof Air Base, Dec. 1955, Oct. 1959. We used AFN as cover sound in our classified work area, to foil any spike mikes that the other side might have been able to get into the wall or roof. At midnight, AFN went off the air, and we had Moscow Molly until 6:00 Ack Emma.

Never got tired of the music, sure a lot better than listening to the sounds of soviet electronic signals. ha.

AFN was a great sound to us in th late 60's. Being in England at that time we also had the "pirate ship" radio Caroline. Anyone else remember????
