I'd like to purchase a wireless remote, but am wondering if it's worth it. Any suggestions/recommendations/when to use one, etc.? Thanks in advance!!

Flash or Shutter?

I use Phottix Strato II wireless radio flash triggers that also double as a shutter release for most major brand cameras.

I use an Opteka remote. These are less than $10 on Amazon. Make sure that you get one that is compatible with your camera.
Use it when your camera is on a tripod. Helps eliminate shakes and can also be used when you want to be in the picture.

What camera? There are a number of products available. As someone pointed out shutter, flash and both in one remote are available. I have a Nikon remote for my Coolpix P7100, a Hahnel Giga II for my D300s and a Vivitar remote that I use for an older Pentax. This remote will work on a variety of cameras and was about $ 25 from Amazon.

Your choice also depends on how you want to use the release--distance, repeated intervals or simple release.

I have a Nikon D7000 & D800. Some that I was looking at do not list the D800 as compatible. Just wondering if it's worth the price. Found one on B&H Vello Wireless that is compatible with both models. Then I've seen some where an external flash can be attached so I guess I'm a little confused.

You are probably planning on using the D800 for your primary camera. I am not certain but I think the D800 uses the 10 pin connector that the D300s does. If the remote can be used by the D700 it will probably work with the D800. The D7000, I don't think uses the same connector. The Vivitar that I mentioned from Amazon works with both the D300s and the D700 but it doesn't have all the functions of the Giga Pro II.

I only use the shutter functions because I have the Nikon SB 900 which will work in commander mode with my camera or I use a longer cord for off camera flash. I use the shutter function because I like to do sunsets, night photography and macro shooting.

I have this Vello remote from B&H, for the D200 & D800. It also comes with a cable for the D7000. Works great as a shutter release and with off camera flash.

I have and use both...but honestly...I think the wired one is just a little faster response.

I recently purchased a wired remote for my Canon 60d and paid roughly $5 for it. The remote does what I need it to do and I loved the price.

Got the remote from BestDeal USA off Amazon.

I have a remote and use it when I've mounted my CANON on a tripod, and I have to wait for a shot. It's worth it. I paid about $12 for mine. I don't use it often, but it goes with me, the tripod and camera, just in case... good luck.

I have 2 remotes and use both. Neither cost more than $10.00 and work fine. I'm not sure what your looking at that has you hesitating about spending the $ as they are one of the few things in photography that are inexpensive.
