Hi all, I need to know how to copyright my photos.
I use Lightroom as well as ACDsee
Don`t bother, nothing worse than seeing a great shot covered in text that does no good at all.
Ok, so it doesn't mean anything? Thanx for the reply
If you want to copyright your photos it will cost about $35.00 a each, and filed with the government.
Copyright is yours when you create the image. Period.
HOWEVER, if you do not register the copyright with the US Copyright Office, you are not entitled to certain kinds of damages if someone steals your image or uses it without permission and you sue them.
http://blog.cutcaster.com/2011/05/03/photography-copyright-explained-best-practices/On line I just keep the resolution small enough that if someone does steal it, they can't do much with it. I also have all copyright info in the metadata.

Below is a link for you, on the first page read what the Administrator of this forum has to say about copyrighting images. He explains it very well. It is near the bottom of the page and is the second post by him on that page. By the way, you do not have to pay per photo but can pay one price to have a batch of them copyrighted. Have fun. 8-)

To copyright register images, go to
www.copyright.gov and follow the instructions and use the forms there. You can register an unlimited number of unpublished images for a fee ranging from around $35 to slightly more.
Although you own copyright at the time of creation of the photo, timely registration is the key to protecting your copyright and to making thieves pay for their thievery.
With timely registration you can sue thieves for up to $150,000 for pirated image, and you don't have to prove the thief profited or that you were harmed. You also can make the thief pay your attorney's fees. Without timely registration you are limited to your actual damages or thieves profits, and you don't get your attorney's fees paid.
Sticking a copyright notice on the image has very little legal significance but may deter some thieves.

Correction to above: You can register an UNLIMITED NUMBER of unpublished photos in a single registration with a single $35 fee.
There are several ways to register them; the above assumes you use the copyright office's online registration method. Doing it with paper forms carries a higher fee.
Good advice there, for anyone working with a lawyer. In almost any type of case, not just copyright.
If a copyright matter is involved, another bit of good advice is not to try to contact the thief yourself directly; it's best done by your lawyer.
May I suggest that every serious photograph get a copy of the book "Photographers survival Manual" by Edward C.Greenberg, J.D. & Jack Reznicki. It can be found on Amazon and will answer your legal questions and how to copyright photos. You will be surprised how much misinformation is out there.

BS! I doesn't cost you anything to copyright a photo!
You can sue for whatever you want but the award is tied to economic worth now what you think the damages should be.

It costs a fee to
register your copyright.
Filing an Original Claim to Copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office An application for copyright registration contains three essential elements: a completed application form, a nonrefundable filing fee, and a nonreturnable depositthat is, a copy or copies of the work being registered and deposited with the Copyright Office.
