My 24-120 Nikon lens developed a fault after approx 18 months, it was intermittently jamming at approx 50 mm. I did not contact Nikon UK until the lens was just over 2 yrs old, when I did they said that the complete lens barrel
Would have to be replaced at a cost of approx. £450. I objected to the price and they then reduced the price to £320 so I told them to do the repair and have since paid the £320 which I am was not happy about as I consider that an £850 lens should not have failed within that time span. I only used the lens lightly as I am now retired and consider that the lens was not fit for purpose.
Question: Has any other members had similar faults with the 24-120 mm lens and what response did they receive from Nikon.

I have one and love it, use it for artshow, fairs etc. Great range, fast enough at f4 with VR. My lens has a 5 year warranty and I have had no issues.
From Nikon's website,
"Nikkor Lenses
Nikkor lenses come with a standard one year warranty and Nikon Inc. lenses sold by authorized Nikon Inc. dealers will have a Nikon Inc. Five Year Extension*.
* To register for the five year extension, one copy of the included form must be mailed in as indicated. Keep the Customer copy of the form as well as the original proof of purchase (sales receipt).USA website, ""
Thank you for your feedback, unfortunately we only get a 2 yr warranty in the UK. Another mismatch in benefits from Nikon, if I had had a 5 yr warranty then I would not of had a problem with my repair.
How can Nikon have such a variation on there warranty cover for the same product. The 24-120 lens is good enough for a5 yr warranty in America but only good enough for a 2 yr in the UK.
IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF WE ARE SUPPLIED WITH AN INFERIOR PRODUCT in the UK.

Ps. I have been a Nikon owner for over 25 yrs and never had this sort of problem.
Did you have the store where you bought the lens contact their rep and explain the situation?

The five year warranty (basically a 4 year extension) is offered through authorized dealers. If you bought through an authorized dealer you should inquire. I would like to hear their reasoning as well. Perhaps they feel that you Brits, being a tough lot, are hard on your toys...
 :D :-D
No I went straight to Nikon Uk
We treasure our toys as much as you do in America, we have to as we have to pay more for them than you do in America. I am out of the Uk for the next 3 weeks but when I return I will take your advice and contact my dealer. I will then let you know their response

While in Japan I had the opportunity to tour the Nikon plant. In the sorting room, they did have two distinct areas for shipping, one for the U.S. and the other for the UK. I watched as they were randomly sorted, but any dropped box went to the UK side.
As McEnroe once said "You can't be serious "
