I'm not sure if I have a problem or not. My XSi/450D programs are set up for the Windows XP OS. I have Windows 7, and to my knowledge there is not a program with that update. Will this effect the way that my pictures are downloaded to my Canon programs? Zoom Browser etc.
I purchased my XSi from a private individual last year off ebay. Does anyone have any input on this? I tried to contact Canon, but they only have answers for the more current cameras.
Did you get the original canon cd's with software or were they copies? I would think when installng it would ask what os system your loading them on. You can dload your pics without any canon software thru windows on your computer or least i did.

just get a card reader and down load your pictures that way. You really shouldn't be plugging your camera directly into your computer to download anyhow.
I have an xsi and would be happy to share any info I have... I have had no problems downloading photos via the usb cord or by card using windows media programs or the canon programs that came with the camera
I have the XTi, plug mine directly into the computer with the usb cord and download with no problem at all. Used to have an XP computer, then got the Windows 7 - no changes in downloading.
I have a 7D and download my pics on my PC ( XP pro) and my laptop ( System 7 ) using the same card reader.
That reader will accept CF cards, SD cards and 2 other formats.
It did cost $30 or less.

What's the reason for this? Canon sends along a cable with the camera to do just that. I have done it for a while now without any negative consequences. I'm not challenging your view, just curious as to why.

Some people prefer to pull the card and use a card reader.
Other's prefer (myself included) to just use a USB cable direct to the camera.
I can't think of a good reason to pull the card out of the camera if you don't have too. I would think the USB port is more stout the the card port. But to each their own.
I'm on windows and just open the folder to download, bypassing 3rd party software though I do understand the appeal of custom folders for organization when downloading.

Just another example of why not to use Windows in my opinion. I have a MacBook and use Picasa to load my photos onto the Mac - Never had a problem at all.

At times ignorance screams for attention. There was nothing about the post that indicated a problem with using Windows.

You know how those Mac users are. Probably has a Nikon. LOL. Just kidding.
I did forget to say I have used the download capability of my Xsi with windows 98, xp and 7 on my various computers... all without a hitch.
