Hi Esther,
How did the wedding shoot go for you recently? Are you happy with the equipment you chose? Did you find time to dance, too? Just wondering...

Following up on my "news item" about the camera bag with contents stolen at the wedding, the thief has now been arrested, but the gear is still missing.

Just a few tid-bits about the photographer:
He apparently works out of Vancouver, but the phone number listed on his website must be a cellphone #, not listed in the phone directory.
There is an address "for deliveries only" - a mailbox in a storefront business.
If he really works out of Vancouver, I don't know why he needed a rental car - unless his own car was in the shop, or maybe he didn't have one.

Nothing on the news about the thief yet, not even a name. He did make a court appearance and was let go on his promise to appear in court again.

If I hear anything more....

It went great... as far as I could control the situations. Photos in the park were not so great, 2pm in the afternoon, harsh shadows, everyone has shadowy eyes... Unfortunately moving to a different location (there were some nicely sheltered spots under the threes) was not an option as the bride insisted to have the flower garden in the background. Most of the ceremony- and reception pictures turned out well, even one that I was totally unprepared for, I'll post it here...
I was waiting for the bride and groom to turn so I could catch their faces - about 5 seconds into this first dance these two little ones appeared (4 1/2 and 5 1/2 years old and yes! my grandkids). The bride was not happy, but I think it was one of the best captures. I won't put it in the bride's book, though!

Ohhhh...how cute is that? Someday she'll have a different perspective on that moment, but for now you are being diplomatic and sensitive. Kudos to you for tackling a family wedding. Skills aside, and I know you have them, wedding stress can make a special day seem very long indeed. I hope the bride and groom appreciate your efforts.
Thanks for the response. I've been thinking about you!

[quote=sirlensalot]Petty criminals pretty much treated the same in these parts.
Sometimes multiple arrests required before they are taken into custody and sent to prison to ponder their existence. In between court dates, they get to enjoy our local tent city county jail in triple digit temperatures wearing pink underwear and bologna sandwiches they they have to pay for. Maybe there is a little justice after all?[/quote

You have a real treasure in your Sheriff Joe. Many of us envy you !! :-D

I am a free lance photographer with lots of Nikon gear and several years ago I contacted several insurance companys. I was to told the equipment was to steelable, especally at weddings. Best potion is try toget a photo
of everything and include in your home insurance. I have taken photos of everything in m home and also all around outside the house.

I, also, had my camera bag stolen with almost all my gear. I had the serial numbers, and filed them with the local police. A few weeks later, I got a call that my stuff had been pawned by a known 'working girl' who lived with a known thief. After another couple of months, I had to show up at a hearing with documentation that the stuff was really mine.
Thank heavens I'm a packrat, and still had a bunch of the original boxes with the factory serial numbers.
The smash and grab thieves have not been arrested.
I lost my 'nifty 50' and a vacation day for the hearing.
I GOT LUCKY!!

He is a treasure! I will vote for him as long as he chooses to run. The only law enforcement officer that puts the law before politics. I can tell you there many who don't feel as I do, but I don't have their pink underwear collection either. LOL

I have a policy through State Farm on my camera equipment, (approximately $12,000, for $110 per year) that covers everything, including if I drop it. No deductable.

Glad to hear it! Makes me wonder though, punishing the thief often has no effect on the loss to the victom...somehow I am thinking instead of punishment, some kind of restitution? Sending a thief to prison is like going to grad school....
