Hi everyone...looking for some help here. I have been obsessed with photography forever but as of late last year have really begun focusing on Portraiture. I need your help in determining what the best photoshop software is in this subject. I have been asked to do family and children portraites and need all the help I can get! Thanks so much! I have included just one of my favorite subjects...my grandson! Thanks again

Photoshop CS5 - $750
Lightroom 3 - $300
Photoshop Elements 9 - $59
All the rest - who cares

I am genuinely prejudice toward Adobe software. It works.

Hi. Great photos of your grandson. One thing that might make shots like this better would be to get the subject out of the direct sunlight, into a shady area, wait until it's an overcast day, early morning/at sunset... anything to keep out of the direct sun--and you'll get richer, smoother colors. Might try to take a couple of steps to one side or the other, give the subject an angle, avoid dead-centering. Otherwise you're to be complimented. Never give up. Never quit trying to improve. I myself personally have yet to take a perfect photograph. I'm still trying too.

Bob...I downloaded the CS5 today to try and unfortunately I am completely lost...will have to look at a tutorial! I have used Lihtroom and Love It! I thought there was software specific to portraiture though...maybe not.

Photoshop CS5 is the industry standard. Yes, it's expensive. I didn't pay $750 but $299 for it through an upgrade offer directly from Adobe. I was an Elements user at the time. I know there are portrait utility or Plug-in packages, in fact OnOne Software Has just released new software, all capable of being used by itself. Please check out this and I think it may be your answer.

Portrait professional is specifically for portraits, I would say if you know nothing about photoshop start with photoshop elements it is a less confusing program.

I have had Elements for a few years now and still am learning. It is quite a powerful program in itself. Photos that are backlit are always nice. Throw a little fill flash in there and you won't be disapointed. Have fun, they grow up so fast.

CS5 is a very powerful piece of software; however it comes with two problems (1) expensive (2) steep learning curve. If you have CS5 I would recommend some training DVD's from Lynda.com. The first CD to get is Photoshop CS5 Essential Training the second DVD is Photoshop CS5 Portrait Retouching. There are countless books on Photoshop CS5, however I find the DVD's to be much better since these are visual instructions from the ground up.

Darling child! I use Elements 9 and the plug ins of Topaz Labs. Go to that .com to see what topaz can offer reasonably priced and free webinars that are also posted to Youtube. Check it out. I like the off center phot better, the background that is distracting can be blurred out easily with Topaz. I mainly just use Elements for the layers I Topaz on. Check it out. Their new B&W effects is fly.

PS is the way to go, despite the learning curve. Internet tutorials (free) abound. Updates are cheaper, so once you are in the club, it is less expensive to stay current. (Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a past version and upgrade, but don't go back too far or they won't allow it! Generally, I think two versions back are upgradeable, but don't act on my say-so, check first!) I too recommend Portrait Professional, and I think you can download a trial version. It runs stand-alone or as a PS plug-in.

Portrait proffessional is a download about $70 works for all portrait work and has the option to choose children so the make over is just slight. It has sliders for you to adjust. Its a stand alone or a plug in for adobe. I had found it in Popoular Photography
