Following up on my "news item" about the camera bag with contents stolen at the wedding, the thief has now been arrested, but the gear is still missing.

Just a few tid-bits about the photographer:
He apparently works out of Vancouver, but the phone number listed on his website must be a cellphone #, not listed in the phone directory.
There is an address "for deliveries only" - a mailbox in a storefront business.
If he really works out of Vancouver, I don't know why he needed a rental car - unless his own car was in the shop, or maybe he didn't have one.

Nothing on the news about the thief yet, not even a name. He did make a court appearance and was let go on his promise to appear in court again.

If I hear anything more....

I hope the court elects to permanently revoke his living privilege!

Seems a bit radical for stealing. Maybe shorten the thief's arms at the wrist making it a bit more difficult to steal anything. Stealing is just plain wrong.

Do they really expect him to show up? Of course, he did promise so why would I think he can't be trusted? Oh, I remember because he's a thief.

Canada has banned capital punishment. It is a shame, as someone has stated, that he will not receive a practical punishment, maybe not an entire hand, but two or three digits and/or the letter "T" branded into his forehead. Practically speaking, he should be incarcerated for no less than five years - after the date the stolen items are recovered.

Thanks for the followup Esther. After watching the video I could not believe he got away with it. Maybe a pro. Put him on a road gang for a few years.

The thief was recorded doing his dastardly deed on videotape. Here is the video from Youtube:

The stolen roperty is most likely in a pawn shop by now.Recovery is slim to none..
I am a free lance photographer with lots of Nikon gear and several years ago I contacted several insurance companys. I was to told the equipment was to steelable, especally at weddings. Best potion is try toget a photo
of everything and include in your home insurance. I have taken photos of everything in m home and also all around outside the house.

The jails are too full...just lop off both of his thumbs, then he will think TWICE about what to steal next time.

You are quite correct, the gear has not yet been recovered and it remains to be seen if he shows up for his Oct.21 court hearing.

Petty criminals pretty much treated the same in these parts.
Sometimes multiple arrests required before they are taken into custody and sent to prison to ponder their existence. In between court dates, they get to enjoy our local tent city county jail in triple digit temperatures wearing pink underwear and bologna sandwiches they they have to pay for. Maybe there is a little justice after all?
