Thank you guys. I don't know what kind of a goose that is, and I would love to know if that 'egg' on his/her head has a specific function besides inspiring jokes.

Yep. I was curious about it because it has been inhabiting a pond with 30 or so wild ducks for some time. It's a domesticated goose (anser cygnoides domesticus!). There is a wild variety that looks similar but is more gray and does not have the hump at the base of the bill. Interesting?

Don't know about geese, but I do know that some species of African and South American cichlids (fish) have that hump also. It is a fatty deposit that only the dominant males develop to that extent.

Excellent shots of the goose, BTW.
