I have the sony A65 and I love it.it does everything I need it to do and more.I passed on the A77 only because I didnt think I needed to spend the extra $200,00 for the w/p feature on the A77 being I live in San Diego. Its a great camera with the Tamron 18 to 270 0n it.I paid $700.00 last nov. for the body and $500.00 for the lense.

I don't know too many professionals but one of the best in the world, Trey Ratcliff, recently announced he has switched from Nikon to Sony. So if Sony is good enough for him, it certainly will continue to be OK for me as an amateur. I do appreciate your concern and your taking the time to remind me. I appreciate seeing your photographs and I've learned a lot from you. Keep posting.

I watched a YouTube video, myself about the A77 (after I already made the decision to get one) and Gary Fong, the flash accessory guy and his wife, both professional photographers, use Sony equipment. The video was a short seminar he gave at a conference.

  The Sony a77 and the a99 are professional grade cameras and great ones at that. That the price is considerable lower than the competition is just one more thing in favor for these cameras. Nikon and Canon sure were not the only companies to build pro-35mm film cameras. Pentax, Olympus, Minolta, well, they all did.

One difference (of possibly several), though is that, while they both have 24.3 MP, the 99 has a full-frame sensor while the 77 is a crop sensor. The 99 is also about $2K more expensive.

I wish I bought my A77 body last November instead of a few days ago :( Was it new or used?

Ask yourself one question. How many pros do you see using sonys
Linda Solomon for one. I could probably fill the page up. But I won't do it because you are my friend and I like you. Lol.

My take: I will keep it short this time. The a65 is an excellent camera. I would suggest that if you have the extra money to spend, go for the a77. It is basically the same camera but it is weatherproof. And yes, get an extra battery either way. Oh, and I picked up a Carl Zeiss lens for $35.00 at a pawn shop. Try doing that with a Nikkor or a Canon L. Minolta lenses are great and you can save a ton of money but you already know this.

Well JR1 I apologize for dumping you yesterday like I did but I think you were the spark of something good. It looks like we may have solidified a Sony fraternity on here. Thanks. Now lets see the owners of other brands band together. It's a good way to help each other when questions come up about their equipment.

According to my Instruction Manual the SLT-A55/A55V in Continuous Advance Priority AE mode it will shoot 28 images in Fine, 28 images in Standard, 19 images in RAW & JPEG and 19 images in RAW, but you are right, if you are shooting just in plain continuous mode it is 6 images per second.

Since I don't have the A55/A55V manual I certainly can't dispute what it says. However, from reviews I looked at, the normal continuous burst mode is 6 fps and in high speed mode it's 10 fps. The numbers you are quoting appear to be the maximum capacity of the buffer in various formats. Please believe me when I say that I'm not trying to win an argument or sound like a know it all. It's just that I couldn't understand how this could be.

Oh, OK. You got the 65. I ordered my 77 body from 123fstop (NY) on ebay (never used them before) and it was $878 with free shipping. I was considering a used 77 from my local (usually price-gouged on most items) camera store, but with state taxes and an extra warranty, the new one was only about $10 more expensive. I'd rather get a known entity for that price. My 330 was from Black Friday '09 and was a package deal, still cheaper than the 77, but I believe I will be happy with the new camera. I just didn't want to wait another 2 1/2 months hoping one would be on sale. It'll be fun to see how my old Canon FD lenses work on my 24.3 MP digital...I've only taken a handful of shots with them on my 330.

Very hard to say anything negative about the A65 and the Tamron 18-270 is a wonderful carry lens. Rent one and look at the A77, as well, to consider your long term investment. A77 a little heavier (metal, not plastic), but more weather tolerant, higher frame per second rate, more focusing points, but both are really, really flexible for any kind of photography you care to indulge. Good luck and let us see your pics.
