I have a Canon Pixma Pro9000 photo printer and I love it. My question is has anybody used the cheaper after market ink and what kind of results have you had?

This has been discussed this week in

You may also want to check the "search" facility above for third party ink or "printer ink"

Yes, I have two of the Canon 9000. Used the cheap ink in one to print every day stuf and left the other for photos. The cheap worked without any major problem, but tried photo and the color wasn't good. Then started looking for buys on the Canon ink. Agree they are ripping us off, but find buys around 70 or 80 dollars. so sticking to that for both. Good luck. Bee

Is it worth it to use knock off inks and taking a chance to ruin your printer??

10 printers, 20 years of printing, printing thousands a year in business and "I" have never lost a printer yet, and never use manufacturers own.

And what is it with this silly Americanisim "knock off" they are third party inks, one assumes you must call Sigma and Tamron "knock off" lenses then

I drive Renault but don't buy Renault parts, I use a canon and a Nikon but uses Hahnel batteries, I have a Panasonic DVD recorder but use TDK DVDs !!!

I always use the Staples store brand. Not as inexpensive as some after-market inks, but they don't cost anywhere near OEM inks.

I always use compatible inks and never had any problems or seen much difference

No info for the OP, but an interesting tidbit here. Anarticle in our newspaper this week indicated that printer ink, if purchased by the cartridge would average between $3000 and $5000 per gallon. Gas is amazingly cheap by comparison. Surely this is a big ripoff by the major manufacturers, if generic ink can be several times cheaper.

JR1 how impure you are... me too ... after market is there to be competitive and they usually are equal or better than OEM. Well at least a lot lower cost.

I have been using my Epson Officedepot display model and a CIS ink supply for 3.5 years and calculate a fantastic $2000 cost savings... WHAT?!, yep going to start on my 4th 100 ml each of ink... 400 ml of each color,,, that is a lot of ink if you bought it in little carts.

Albo1964 do a search for a CIS or CISS for your Canon Printer less than $100 and pre-filled with ink. System consists of tanks tubes and cartridges.
