Recommendation

I am interested in a recommendation for a small carry around fixed lens camera to be able to have quality at my fingertips at all times. Not essential but desirable features are, viewfinder (can be an accessory), built in pop up flash.
Please advise your suggestions and reasons why.

I shoot a sony A100, Nikon D3100, Nikon D3200, and my latest addition is the Canon SX50 Not small but I love the features it has, like the 1200 mm zoom. It has the flash you want. I never go out of the house without it.

Thanks but that is not a fixed lens and is larger than I would ideally like whilst it is truly an incredible camera

Sony RX 1 full frame compact. If not small enough, the Sony RX 100 m2 plus viewfinder is a great camera, though it has a narrow range Zeiss zoom lens. The RX100 is easily pocketable.

I have been using a Fujifilm s4000 for the past year. It is a bridge camera and has the options you want. It also allows shutter, aperture, and manual controls similar to a DSLR. I really like it and it takes great pictures. I would recommend it. See what others may have to say.

ok but you never know when you "may want a change of lens and you don't "have" to change lenses.

Hi again, the s4000 is a fixed lens with a 30x zoom It sounds like your are looking for a point and shoot.

If you'll settle for a point and shoot I have two suggestions.
Years ago I needed a pocket sized point and shoot that also allowed me all the control of an SLR. The answer at the time was the Canon Powershot G7. That camera has evolved, I think it's a G12 or G13 now, I don't know and the later model might have given up on its viewfinder. So check.
Later when Nikon finally woke up and produced a good point and shoot that also allows full control I bought the Coolpix P7100. This one is equivalent to the Canon in terms of quality and capabilities and it's similar in price too. It still has a view finder as well.
I like the Nikon, the images seem to have a better contrast. The frustration I used to have with the Canon was the need to tweak contrast on every single image. I've never had to do that with the Nikon. But then perhaps by the time you get to the G12 it's been fixed. I don't know. I'll also admit that some people liked the lighter images from the Canon.
Anyway, those are the two I'd suggest you look at.

If I may suggest, send a PM to MTShooter. He is a member here on UHH and is a well respected and very knowledgeable when it comes to cameras of any type. He is a retired professional photographer (photo journalist) and recently opened his own photos shop in Montana. I'm 100% positive you will find him very helpful as well as quite a gentleman. He would be my first choice for a good answer to your needs. He is also very competitive with his pricing for equipment...Tom in Ok.
