Anyone try the sony rx100m2 with viewfinder. I Love the RX 100 but dislike using the LCD screen. My major Question is do I trade my Sony RX 100 for The M2 because of the Viewfinder ?

I have the Sony RX100 and love it too. As you do, I like very much the improvement on the M2 of a viewfinder (EVF). In addition the movable LCD screen is a significant improvement. I will not trade RX100 for the RX100 M2 because I don't think those improvements justify the additional expense, but I would if the expense were be small enough.

Thank you for your reply, The viewfinder is an expensive addition, over $ 300 at B&H. Actually the RX100M2 with Viewfinder + tax is around $1,400.

That makes it even more out of reach for me. Thanks for the information

I also own the RX100M2. And I also have a Sony NEX-5N with the optional viewfinder. The viewfinder for the two cameras is the same except for different mounting. So I will have to spend the money twice. On the 5N I use the viewfinder 99% of the time and it never leaves the camera. I love the fact that these viewfinders flip up making it easy to take pictures with lower perspective.
Having used the equivalent oled viewfinder you can be assured that I will be adding the optional viewfinder to my RX100M2 as soon as finances permit.
It is because of the availability of this viewfinder that I passed on the RX100 but bought the RX100M2 as soon as it came out.

Thank you for your reply. You may have tipped me toward the M2, however the viewfinder is an expensive item. Does it give you 100% of what your shooting ?does it Zoom in and out ? Is it clear. I own an Alpha 77 and that viewfinder is spectacular. I use the rx100 for travel and just returned from Scandinavia and Russia and have looked at the results and am very impressed.

The viewfinder shows you what the sensor is capturing. In addition the viewfinder will show you settings and other information. It can be used for using the menu system. In addition you can have it show the picture that was just shot. I have mine set to show the picture just shot for 2 seconds. That is just enough time to verify the shot. For fast moving subjects I can turn this off. In the viewfinder you can verify focus and exposure. I sometimes see that detail that I want to see in the shadows is not there and I can adjust the exposure and shoot again.

That is remarkable, I am slowly gravitating to the M2. Thank you again for the information

Actually the EVF is $450 at B&H and the camera is $750 totaling $1200. They do not charge tax or shipping, but the total seems excessive. Surely a generic EVF will come out soon.

Than you for the Information but I am a NYC resident and I will pay a tax bringing this up to close to $1,400. Ugh , these taxes. However this will not deter me. When I have a moment I am going to B&H.

I should be receiving my RX-100II on Monday (12/16/2013). I traded my RX-100 and my NEX-5N in on it (I have the NEX-7 so I really don't use the 5N anymore). I already have the EVF to fit on the Mark II so 'm ready to go. I really liked the RX-100 but I'm not a big fan of framing & focusing with an LCD (56 years old, farsighted & my arms aren't getting any longer).

Reading various reviews of the RX-100II, most highlight the hotshoe, WiFi, NFC & tiltable LCD. I'm more interested in the BSI (backlit screen) as it ups the ISO a bit and is better in low light. DPReview claims ISO 3200 is the sweet spot for low light. That's pretty high for getting good usable prints. That, along with the customization options should prove interesting.

I'm not all that into video but the clips I've seen shot with the Mark II look pretty astounding. Maybe I'll have to start shooting some video.
