Sat out today with Harrison and watched the Hummers flying round. It is sad we are suppose to take down the feeders soon. I will miss the little guys and girls. Seem like they just got here.:):)

I never do that...take the feeders down. Not until they are all gone because sometimes here in the south we have warm weather all the way to November and the hummers stick around longer than the books say. I've never had one want to hang around longer than it should, they always leave for their happy stomping ground. As a matter if fact, I think PJ got a shot of the last one that left my house last year. :)
Sure does take a lot of patience to get these birds and I must say... you must be a wonderful grandfather if you managed to keep Harrison interested and still get these great shots!!

Sharpness and colour are great Erv but most of all your composition is really terrific.

Being close to the lake here, we never know when it might get cold fast. I would hate to make them stay to long.:):)
Harrison is really into the cameras right now.:):) I got him his own toy one and we sat out watching them for about 2 hours. I showed him some of mine and told him he took them.:):) He walked around with the prints all night showing every one.:):)
He seems be be very smart for 14 months. He takes walks with me shooting now too.:):) I am haven a blast!!!

Thank you Pierre! I had to sit farther away than I normally would. I had Harrison in a chair next to me shooting too. Some times when he would see them he would make a happy little scream.:):) But it was a fun night!!

Thank you Bruce. We didn't have any till about 4 weeks ago. Then about 8 pair showed up. I have had 4 Butterfly's and one Hummingbird Moth this year. Last year the yard was full of wild life. I am thinking it was to wet and cold this spring. My garden sucked this year too!!! And the grapes. I will be lucky to get enough grapes for just a few batches of Grape ice cream.:):) If I beat the Deers to them.:):) OH and all the apples are falling and the pears too. Weird year all around.

Erv, you are lucky to get hummers with a 14 month old by your side. They are hard to get in the best of circumstances. Do not worry about causing them to stay too long. That is a myth that has been going around way too long. They have a sixth sense about when to leave & when to stay. You might catch some from farther north on their way south & they will need the nectar for their long flight.

Just for the record, all. We had a much better showing in terms of Hummer numbers last spring. Atho, I am told that we haven't yet seen them at their fall peak yet. It is still blistering hot out. But a few sightings caused me to rehang the feeders a few weeks ago. I have seen an occasional straggler, usually a Kamikaze....but, have not seen any in numbers. Also had a bunch of visits from Yellow Warblers a few weeks back, but they have disappeared, too. Oh well...........some folks just know how to call'em in. No names mentioned!!!
