My D-50 did that after not using it for quite sometime. After much frustration I realized that unlike my d90 it was not able to use higher than a 2GB card. What size card are you using? I might suggest trying a smaller capacity card. Good luck!

I have a D90 and have encountered that same problem a few times. First few times it was Operator Error (forgot to put my card back in the camera) OOPS!! So now that is the first thing I check when my camera won't take a pic. The other thing was that I started to get error messages only when using my Tamron Lens. I would have to take the lens off, put it back on and zoom in and out a few times then it would work for a day or so. I finally got frustrated, sold the lens (and the person who bought has not had any trouble with it). I have Nikon and Sigma lenses now and other than forgetting to put the card in occasionally, I have no more problems. Just keep in mind each situation is different and there are many suggestions and remedies. Might want to have a dealer look at it if you cannot solve the problem on your own. Good luck and let us know how things turn out, please.

I use a Nikon D90.

I believe you will find either your memory scan disk is full OR not in the camera. I experienced this same thing early on with Nikon and it was because I removed the memory disk and had not replaced it... let me know if you find this is the case. If so... just replace with a memory disk/card/chip. Once you turn on your cameral all will be right with the world.. at least camera wise

There have been several embarrassing moments in my life after leaving the SD in the reader... out in the field... no card.. now i carry an extra card and battery.

I had a friend with a new camera that did not work... she/he (not a sexist so de-gendered) said to me... "Memory card, what's that?"

We, the USA, are just above Tonga in our literacy, .

Are you sure about that? When I see some of the posts here from U.S. participants it causes me to doubt.

Yes, I know that, but now you have stated it aloud and clear and have surly brought upon us the wrath of UHH semi-conscious who dwell on the U in UHH. :XD:

BTW I just checked world-wide literacy rates. It was a surprise. Tonga is in fact just below the U.S...but not by much. The US is 99% and Tonga 98.9%...probably within the measurement error.

It is surprising how low some countries are and who they are.

MtnMan, I taught for 3 years after I retired. I was required to take a Reading Course... I was ask to drop out after I expressed, with references, my views on how reading is taught. The proctor I was assigned to was a almost retired reading teacher. The children who are having to take remedial reading in Mid and High School are taught the same way as failed them the first time... like the definition of insanity.... did not work the first time why should it the next time.

Now the head start programs are cut to increase the illiteracy of our populous and is considered as a positive thing by "one-political-party" .... I was a victim of the revival of "look say" which like Jason in Friday the 13th rears it ugly head when some one wants a research grant.

Question: if a SA child taught aaa baa kaa da ech phonics was put in a room along with an Americana child who was taught A B C which could sound out the words... of course I know the answer... is I know it why is it that Education Specialist do not... Betcha that EstherP's MaMa taught her phonics before school age.

Sorry My Reading Rant sometimes when making love, I stop and discuss reading it is that salient! :-P

I would recommend trying to format the card. If it fails to format, try another card.

This is a great place to start. I had some trouble a few days ago, and I got lots of complicated advice, but it turned out I just needed to reformat my sd card.

I had a D90 that gave the same message. I tried everything and nothing worked. Finally I downloaded the lastest software updates per Nikon instructions and the problem was cured.

Err , it will not capture pictures, the picture will not show up in the viewer it is simply not taking the picture. I read a comment by another post that said take lens off, it may reset, but was not helpful for me.

Any help for me? I did not find the manual helpful at all...
Feeling overwhelmed, granddaughter's first birthday in 2weeks.. :(
