The only time I had a problem photographing in an airport was in Toronto when I used a tripod. They were pretty quick to tell me that was verboten.

Not sure why, but I suppose it's their rules. Thanks for the feedback.

Don't take photographs during the period when the aircraft is taking off or landing as any electronic equipment can cause problems with the aircraft's ILS ( Instrument Landing System).
In any case cabin crew will usually ask you to stow the camera during these times.

Agreed. Thanks.

My granddaughters recently flew to Florida. We have a neat photo of them sitting on the pilot's laps during boarding.

That's very cool.

Make sure your wife doesn't wear too short a skirt or too much makeup and that neither of you are drinking any booze, otherwise you just might fit the typical terrorist profile.

I've already warned her of the before boarding groping session that may occur.

I went there once and I would never go back. They don't like Americans and if you are black they dislike you more Be careful and hold on to your camera. Good luck...Rich

I'm going to one of those all inclusive resorts. I don't really plan on leaving that area too much. I wanted to go elsewhere but it was about the shortest distance to fly. My wife doesn't like to fly so we compromised. Thanks for the good advice. I'm a pasty white guy, by the way. :-D

I am a puppy raiser for The Guide Dog Foundation for The Blind in NY. Our pups arrive by US Airways. I take pictures of the arrival boards, the plane arriving, the volunteer who brings the pup. Also when the pups go back as adult dogs I do the same thing. Why? So the blind person who receives the pup will have memories of the dog that they get. I have used cell phones and 'real cameras' at Orlando Airport the arrivals gate is next to security and I have never had a problem.

Thanks, Wendy. Good work you're doing there. I used to frequent Cocoa Beach when I could when I lived in Kissimmee.

The only place I know for sure they don't want you to take pictures, or use your cell phone, is in the U.S. customs receiving area on your return. They'll tell you that many times over as you enter.

I recall hassles of people taking photos of airport security but I don't believe they have a right to hassle you.

Jamaica could be a whole different story. Haven't been there for many years. The biggest concern when I went would have been not having your stuff ripped off.

Point well taken and thank you.

I hope you aren't using a digital camera for photos during takeoff and landing as passengers are supposed to have turned off all electronic devices for safety purposes. Cameras today are electronic, mine even has GPS built in. So, be considerate of others who are trying to obey the rules, just a few of us from what I've seen as cell phones come out at 2000 feet on approach to say, "Hi hon, I'll see you in a few minutes.... CRASH.

You will usually see signs in the security area prohibiting photography & in customs but otherwise it is usually allowed. If you see signs prohibiting photos, don't. As in most places keep your equipment close, valuables (passport, credit cards, cash) under your cloths & be careful. Jamaica has a bad reputation (justified) for theft & fraud, stay alert. You can still have a great time but leave the bling at home.

Good thinking. I have heard the same thing from a few people. I certainly appreciate all the advice.

Be careful in non-US airports. In some countries it is against the law and you will be arrested. In many countries the commercial airport is also a military airport.

Good point sir. I had not thought about that, but you are absolutely correct. Thanks.

BTW if you haven't done so you might want to consider listing your camera equipment on your homeowner's policy. Most will cover all losses with no deductible for about 1% of the value per year additional cost.

Some amount (up to like $3,000) is probably covered without listing...but subject to deductible.

Also some of them cover replacement value rather than depreciated value when you list the equipment.

I have thought about listing it. I think I will. Thanks!

Now that I think about it.... I have taken pictures of Mt. Hood, Las Vegas, sunsets, Hawaii and cloud formations during different flights. I hope you have a window seat.

I always try and get a window seat too. It helps on long flights especially.

About eight years ago 12 of us were on a mission trip to India. The only airport we had trouble with was the airport in India. We wanted a group photo and manage to get one photo taken before security arrived and stopped us. They were polite, but stopped any further picture taking.

Excellent points, just be a smart traveler. My neighbor had her carry on stolen in Italy. She was in the airport not paying attention and someone walked off with it. Passport, camera, wallet were all taken. I use a security belt for passport, visa and wallet when traveling in foreign countries. Not saying you should, just a personal thing I do.

I had a bag stolen from Atlanta when I was in my 20's. Never again for me. I'm always over cautious probably.
