I don't normally do portraits in B&W, but something made me do it!
I know which I prefer but, if you please, I'd like to know which one you prefer. Thanks!
Canon 20D
f/5.6 @ 1/30, ISO 100
50mm
One studio strobe w/ window light

Although I can't speak as a portrait photographer, I definitely vote for the color version. To me, and especially in a person as young & beautiful as she, the color just seems to project her radiance and conveys more of a sense of her "humanness".

A pretty lady always looks better in color. No contest.

Both are great shots, but I go for the color it adds more contrast,in this case. You can see in the cheeks eyes and lips. I prefer BW pics of older people with signs of age! Your model is just to young and pretty!

Thanks for looking and leaving your comment, PAPAJOE69. You make a pretty good case there!

I vote black and white. Something about B&W just speaks to me in a very deep and classical sense.

She is a lovely girl, but I have to say the Black and White, hands down.

I am a big fan of B&W and BOTH are lovely (I mean, look at that model... how could the photo be anything BUT beautiful!?)

But in this instance, surprisingly, I actually prefer the color version.

I tend to prefer more high-key effects in female B&W portraits but it's just a personal preference.

I'm feeling lazy tonight and since I agree with everything said here....

So, I'm guessing you're going for the one in color?
Thanks, alissaspieces, always wonderful to hear from you!

Unlike so many photos posted on HH where every one is falling all over themselves to compliment the artist, these two are sensational -- witness the similarities in the commentary. Without going back to look, I find that I was drawn to the Color Photos myself. Since both are really good, I should think that your own favorite would be the one to pick

I confess that I'm not a fan of pushing the limits in PP; rather, I prefer to get things right in camera as often as possible. My only technical contribution would be (this is of course meaningless without seeing the original) that you MAY have her cropped in a might too tight for my personal taste. I'd welcome seeing more of her head and shoulders.

I am actually a fan of black and white portraits but in this case the color photo stands out. The skin tone in the B&W photo has a flat, matte look and the eyes have no luster. This image can be very dramatic (albeit not so innocent) if you played up the highlights and shadows with the dodge tool and the burn tool in Photoshop or some other image editing software. You would be amazed at the difference.

Both are very nice, but for me the color one takes the #1 spot.

GREAT photo!

I think I like the black & white. B&W has a certain elegance to it whch color does not...

With those beautiful blue eyes and that gorgeous complexion anything but color is out of the question.
