I am an Anchorage resident and the best I can hope for is seeing a distant Denali from Anchorage in winter...when sometimes it appears from afar on the horizon...these are great shots, beautifully done and you were quite blessed!!

Thank you very much for the comment, I guess I was lucky that it started to snow as I left Fairbanks, my plan was to go to Talkeetna, since I am not used to driving in the snow I stopped at midday in Healy, so I got some great shots of Otto lake and Mt. Denali the next morning. I love Alaska visited the place almost every year since you became a State, I am 81 years old and if my wife lets me I will be up there coming September..

No, I am a lifelong amateur. You are right about September, no more mosquitoes, no more crowds and the nice fall color plus the motels are cheaper and so are the rental cars.

I am glad you called it by its proper name throughout the thread.

After visiting Denali this year and doing a little research I have decided to make a campaign out of this.

The proper name for the mountain is Denali. It has been called that for thousands of years by the native people and is disrespectful to try and change its name to that of an Ohio politician who never even saw Alaska.

The State of Alaska has clarified that the name of the largest mountain in North America is Denali with a State memorial.

It is only some dippy legislators in Ohio that keep it with the wrong name on Federal maps through snaky legal maneuvers. They are welcome to name a mountain in Ohio after their favorite son.

I lucked out too this June...

Mount McKinley or Mt. Denali " The big one" as the natives call it. The highest peak in North America, 6,134 meters or 20,320 feet. Why is this image rare? Any Alaskan will tell you to see the mountain with fresh snow and without a fog or cloud cover is almost like winning the lottery. I was very lucky, being a tourist I was there at the right time at the right spot. As the old native at Talkeetna the gas station told me, the big one is like a lady she don't like to be exposed naked without any cloud cover. So here she is uncovered.

BTW I thought the Glenn highway was the nicest drive in Alaska. You captured it nicely.

Looks like you won the lottery too, fantastic shot by the angle of the view the pictures was taken from inside the Denali Park? I totally agree the glen highway is one of the most scenic. One that might be almost better the old Denali Highway from Paxton to Cantwell but the dirt road is just murder.

Yes, I think I took this one at the visitor's center at (something like) Elisson. It is a beautiful place. I cloned out the road which is off to the right. We had incredible weather for three days...in the 80s and perfectly clear.

The mosquitos could be challenging at times. We developed great compassion for the animals that can't get away from them. Here are a couple of examples where you can see their personal mosquito fleets.

We got much better bear pictures along the Alaska Highway on our way up.
