Apparently he's found a good hunting spot in my back yard finding worms and bugs.
Cloudy and light rain gave me a chance up up the ISO to 3200. Still learning to sharpen and reduce noise using LR4.
C&C welcome.

Came in to root around for bugs.

Nice series... I thought that hawks went for larger food groups like squirrels, rabbits, mice, and the like. I guess they have a broad food range for whatever is in season or view... :thumbup:

@bruce, that's what I thought. I think this is a Cooper's Hawk which is known for chasing and catching birds in flight. But apparently bugs and worms are big on their menu. And he doesn't seem to be too bothered with me as close as 30 ft. sometimes. Red Tail hawks and some others are different story though.

This looks like a sharp-shinned hawk to me for these reasons: it eats bugs etc, Cooper's Hawks aren't know for this. They don't eat anything smaller then a robin.
Its small side, long legs and long tail, distinctive of a Sharp-shinned hawk

But the two are very similar in coloration and location.
