I successfully downloaded the software. Now do I just need a cord to go from the camera to the computer, or are there a bunch of settings I need to pull this off?

Go back, Read your post and think, Gee! What important information did I fail to include??? Once you realize your failing maybe you can read the manual for it!

Not a lot to go by. We need to know;

1. Name of software that you have downloaded.
2. Name and model of camera you wish to connect.

Oliver.

So you realize, you basically called a mechanic and said my car is making this noise "#$(#$". What is wrong with it?

There are other variables we need to know, but most of your questions will be answered in your manual!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Since you are still online may I ask that you stay?

The problem is we get a lot of question here that do not supply enough information for us to help. You also have to realize that an international site some may approach an answer more direct that others. So it is for any group numbering in the 30,000 range.

If your camera uses SD cards a card reader should be all you need. If not, you will probably need the usb cord that came with the camera. If using the usb to connect the camera direct, make sure you have a full battery. You don't want to chance it going dead mid transfer and damaging any files.

I don't believe the question was about file transfer-- I believe he/she was asking about controlling the camera by tethering to a laptop. Perhaps OP will clarify-- unless gone for good.

I really hope you're still around to read this. Larrie's comment seemed to me to be a way of using humor to make you realize that you had omitted vital information. If you stay around here (and I sincerely hope you do), you'll realize that we occasionally use wit or sarcasm, but none of it is personal.

LOL. How is anyone able to tell tone from text? The tone of a text is interpreted by the reader. If the reader is in a bad mood the message has negative conotations. If your in a joyous and happy mood you care less what a typed message says for you can ignore it and delete it. What a terrible world it is when someone flys off and rants because an answer was precise and to the point; logical and direct. I myself enjoyed it. Lol

Plug your sync cord into computer and camera. Start software s d turn on camera. Now? I don't know. What software do you have? But I bet your smart enough to be able to figure it out.

This is something I would like to know. My camera is a Lumix FZ200; nothing in the manual mentions tethering to a laptop; now maybe it's not possible, but the manual is notoriously short on information. My laptop is a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista, and it's 5 years old.

So how do you fix a cable to a camera/laptop to view your images as you shoot? BTW, I don't use a DSLR because I'm old and fragile with shaky hands. (Just wanted to clear that up.)

Here's a discussion about doing that.
