And your thoughts are appreciated. I think you just talked me into leaving my scope in the living room. My current scope is a 4.7 inch refractor.

I have always kept my scopes inside the house, in my office. I would never store one outside without humidity and temperature control. The dust that may build up on a reflector or dob is okay and it does not hurt the image.
After a while, a few years however, you might want to take your mirror off and RINSE (not scrub) it off with some pure water.
Scopes I have stored in the garage have suffered from mold and mildew.
