A new section for pictures

As for the word Awesome, I am from New England and banning our vocabulary is hardly conducive to promoting relations. If I think a photo is more than exceptional, what is wrong with saying that it is wicked awesome? Sorry you are put off by that but I fail to see how that differs from other nonconstructive comments like 'I like it' 'It is a great shot' 'good job' etc. I am not a pro but I try to include real suggestions along with my disclaimer (not a pro) and not just a 'I really like the photo'. If you want to ban something, how about frivolous comments without real critique included? That should stop everyone from wanting to comment all together. If you can show a little compassion for my idiosyncrasies, then I would feel better for doing the same for you.

Feel free to do just that, as many, many people are currently doing.

We are discussing a seperate section for true critique, where the word "Awesome" is banned, along with "Nice picture". Thise comments should be superfulous (sp?) to our C&C section. We are not going to slaughter images, but they need to be much better than run-of-the-mill photos.

This site, I thought, was to help everyone improve their ability. I did not realize this was a pro photographer only site.

We have lost people from this site because they did not get any comments at all on their "Please Critique" photo. Lets not make matters worse by putting so many restrictions on replies that no one will comment. Nothing wrong with saying you like the photo along with the critique. Don't add frivolous bans on words and make commenting user unfriendly.

Wild Bill.... I agree.... This is why I haven't been on a forum in years, to much bickering. It always happens sooner or later. If it keeps up I'm sure many will be leaving. Sad!!

LOL! You are so mean. That's 90% of my photography!

personally I love the bugs , your site is inspiring. only thing that t'd me off is that you know the name of all those critters..
thanks for the look see.
you are the first one i am placing on my buddy list...

staying on topic. I think c&c would be a great section for photos by folks that are looking for some particular help with there photos.. do not believe that the exif info is necessary to critique a photo any of that info one would find necessary to critique the photo would gladly be given from the poster if asked for..
just my .02 cents

Discussion of banning the word "Awesome" is tongue-in-cheek humor, because it is over-used and non-descriptive. There will be no list of banned words, no matter where you live.

My favorite term of approval is "Not too shabby!",which I post sparingly. It is appropriate for a general photo section where OP is looking for peer approval, but not for a Critique & Comment section where OP is seriously looking for opinion as to how an image can be improved.

We are discussing two separate sections for two entirely different purposes. "What do you think?" question in C&C section will obtain much different replies than same question in general photography section.

I agree that the critique should foster replies of real suggestions and not just pats on the back.

I don't mind the joking around but after reading the comment more than once I got worried that there may be some seriousness to it. Sorry if I sounded rude or overly defensive.

I do believe that someone who asks for critique is seriously looking to improve their performance/ photograph and deserves something other than good job so I try my best as I believe we all should. I would want more than "nice photo" if I asked for suggestions.

The Photo group I lead just has gone through this, and so far we are deciding that if you want "Critique / Comments / Advice etc " that you need to ask for it when you post your picture. Then people are free to comment on those, otherwise just be nice.

Keep it simple, let the person posting indicate what they want, if anything.

Gideon was suggesting names of pending two sections of "Pictures".

Any suggestions/opinions are welcome.[/quote]

If you cannot remember the camera settings, just right click your photo that you have saved to your computer, click on properties. All of the settings should be there. I hope this helps.

Admin,

Great idea, go for it.

Suggestions:

1. In the header of each post, below the ad links, place the short rules for each photo section. This should help define the reason and purpose of each section.

2. For technical data to be included in posts encourage the inclusion of EIXF data in the submission. Technical data about the photo image capture is now included when modern digital cameras save the exposure. When transferring the image to a computer and editing the image the final product must be saved in a computer friendly format (.jpg), at that point the editor can opt to include the EIXF data.
