Here's the question. I'm needing to buy a larger and better monitor for photo editing. I would like to hear some recommendations from anyone that will take the time to comment. I need a minimum of a 30 inch screen but don't know what specifications to look for in a good monitor.

Neither do the rest of us, apparently. I shoot and edit on the road so I use a laptop all the time. So, I use whatever the laptop has. Probably not the best solution, but it has worked alright so far.

Starting point is an IPS type monitor; these are the best displays for photo editing.

I was in your same situation 5 years ago when my monitor failed. I purchased 2 Acer 24" for under $300@. The brightness is great and the dependability superb. I will never purchase a 30" again. Tools on the left, image on the right--works perfect for editing at 10% of the cost.

I think the money should be spent to buy the best large screen television you can buy. It will come with VGA port for the PC or Laptop, also a sound input and now even HDMI computer inputs, which already has sound. Connect these together before plugging them in. When you turn them on the computer will scan the TV and provide the correct output for the demotions of whatever monitor you hook up. If you find this screen to large click to minimize the screen and drag it to the desired size. The rest of the time you can enjoy football, movies, whatever. Via regular television.

Why 30", I use a 22" you often get what you pay for, mine is an EIZO if you can afford them, would help if we had a budget

I already have a 22 inch and as I get older need a slightly larger one. My budget is in the 5-700.00 range or less if possible. I need really good resolution for detail editing.

I'm just wondering why the 30 inch minimum screen. You could go to dual monitors and gain more real estate for less money with higher quality slightly smaller (22-24 inch) monitors. Three monitors are even possible.

Dual monitors? I don't understand that at all.
My monitor is 42 inches the resolution is I quote "You get what you pay for" Todays TV's are nothing more then giant Computer monitors complete with (TV) HDMI input and (computer) HDMI input. for max resolution. You're paying the same money for the screen without the receiver, so you can call it a monitor.

You can't beat a Eizo Colour Edge Monitor- they are an industry standard, with beautiful definition

I have to chuckle, I needed a new monitor for my tower, decide to buy a large screen TV with a PC port on it. My brother in-law who has a testosterone problem, tells me I wasted my money, I should have bought a monitor, why on earth would a buy a TV. LOL,, I figured when no using the computer I'll be watching TV. It surprised me, I found it powers off by it's self, and powers on. Has built in speakers and has great video rendition. He now has a TV as a monitor.
