I use one from Black Rapid for when I have to lug around two bodies, which are quite heavy - D600 with 300 f4 + TC 1.4 and the D7100 with the new 80~400 G VRII. I have a safety tether for a "just in case" situation, but so far no issues.

I do double check everything for security before setting out though.

Your tether will keep the camera from falling to the ground, but if the case breaks out around the tripod socket, you will still need a new case.

I bought a very inexpensive OpTech harness for my SX40. It is perfect for vacation trips and also biking, keeping the camera in a good, safe location. It slides up on the straps when needed. I also purchased a couple of snaps so I can change back to my regular camera strap for other times, when the harness isn't needed.

I use a single harness which I wear across my chest. I love it because it takes the weight off my neck. The camera is always ready and shooting is much easier.

Thanks David, I fit the camera using the lens tripod mount, not the camera body one and the tether goes to the strap mounts on the body. Quite secure.

I was hoping one of you experts could point me to camera harness. There are a lot of them out there & I have no idea what to look for other than one that holds a camera. I need it for my Nikon D5100 with my 55-300 zoom lens. When I walk in the park I like to have my camera ready & not in my camera bag & as you all know it gets heavy after I have walked an hour or so. Any suggestions?
thanks

Check out the cotton carrier. Took my children up the half dome cables recently and a gent was using one. Very secure, at the ready, doesn't swing around, modular to add another camera or accessories .

I've had my Black Rapid for about 2 years and have a battery grip and have not had a problem. Not saying it couldn't happen. I think a security tether is safe insurance for any sling! I think I might just try to adapt one to mine.

If you have a cheap camera, don't worry about how safe the carrying strap is. If you do, get something worthwhile.

For several years I have been using the Op/tec single camera harness they come in both elastic (my favorite) and solid strap. It places the camera nicely and the two straps don't cut into your neck.
I have recently bought the Op/Tec double camera harness that is SUPER for the use of two cameras and converts to a single camera use quickly. Converting from a "2 gun" quick draw style back to the single camera on your front.
I would suggest the double as it has a much better neck and shoulder padded yoke.

I really like the very same strap, and it is reasonably priced.

I bought a camera harness at Cowboy Camera in Allen TX for under $20 that works great. Two connectors to carry camera & backup. Attaches via tripod mounting hardware. Comfortable & sturdy. Heavy-duty, solid construction, yet comfortable. Can order on-ine with free shipping.
