Nobody goes into baseball without first loving the game. If you're not good at it, there is no way fame and fortune are going to lure you in. It's not possible unless you were born with a natural ability and everything came easy to you. You may become disillusioned over time, but you still love the game, don't you?

Yes I do still love the game and it just makes me sick when I see what's going on especially the drug related crap. I wish I had some answers but I don't only tears.

I suggest you go to watch a minor league team if there is one in your area. Now THOSE guys love to play ball and are not in it for the money.

Yep Yep, we have the LONG ISLAND DUCKS here in Suffolk County,
seats are 20 bucks or so, all the conveniences of the Major leagues, and the players are SUPERB, great heads up ball.
The players are happy to chat with the fans ( and do not charge for autographs) good natured honest fun.

We have a Single-A team here, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, currently in the California League farm system for the Dodgers. They play at the Epi-Center and their mascot is Tremor (jersey # 4.8) and his sidekick Aftershock (jersey # 2.4).

They, as well as the team, put on a good show and keep the fans involved.

Fans are typically polite, with the usual but not mean comments about "Blue being blind"...

The players make very little in salary and the team's booster club helps out with "sponsors" who keep their "kids" involved, having them over for holiday get togethers, even providing housing for players during home stands.

For info on our booster club,

http://rcquakesboosterclub.org/host-family-info.html

So, yes, these kids are dreaming of making it to "the show" with its attendant prestige and perks.

So, they are willing to pay their dues, suffer through long bus rides, cheap motels and smelly locker rooms.

Do they love the game?

I would think so...

But, can they be corrupted?

Yes, when they can be convinced that the end justifies the means...

And that will continue until someone with the authority makes it unprofitable to continue cheating the system.

Phil

and another way is to stop paying them those millions and pay each player the same amount for playing the same sport, around $50,000 ech

Why not start at the High School level??...You committ certain acts or crimes,no college schlorship...you committ certain acts or crimes in college...no pro contract!! Do this and watch how the face of the game changes!! Tired of seeing good, clean cut kids, with just a smidge less talent, never get a chance to play college or pro ball, while people like Vick, Ray Coruthers, Ray Lewis,Hernandez, are allowed to make millions, while some poor kid,who did everything the right way, never got a chance! Also make the schlorship atheletes take legit classes and get legit grades!

I agree with Phil but there are too many variables that would not make a total ban fair, false positives, legal prescriptions, etc. However, once a player has been found to have used PEDs he/she should be banned for life from that sport.

This may be why NASCAR is more popular.

Just follow the money. Except in Tony Gwynn's case.

The Baseball Commissioner is going about it all wrong, IMHO...

"My 3 simple rules"...

1. All Players have until the end of the Season to "clean up" and test "completely" negative for doping substances. Any Player found with doping substances at that time will be banned FOR LIFE from playing professionally. All records they may have set will be expunged form the official record, as if they never played the sport.

2. The only exception: If any Player now admits, confidentially, the use of doping subjects, they will be tested for levels and exempted from an immediate LIFE BAN: If and Only If, at end of season, they test at expected levels of doping substances due to expected biological clearing of substances from their body proving non-use of doping substances.

3. If a Player is allowed to play, they may be tested at ANY TIME Without Notice. Any evidence of a doping substance will result in an Immediate and Permanent Ban from playing.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

The effects:

This allows teams to keep their rosters and investments intact.

It "cleans up" the sports.

Players will no longer have any "chemical advantage" and will have to depend ONLY on their skills.

It does not penalize the clean players or the fans.

Regarding Rule 3, it should state that such players WILL be tested RANDOMLY at some interval consistent with clearance times for the drugs in question, at their expense.

The fan is the only one who cares about the game. The MLBC, the owners, the players and their union have had dollars at the center of the table for years. The game itself has become the vehicle by which the dollars of interest are generated. There was a day believe it or not when players actually played because they loved the game.

You got it!

I may have heard incorrectly, on the radio, but it was my understanding that ALL of the 13 players recently suspended from playing, were NOT caught by drug tests.

They were ratted out by....I think it was someone who worked at the clinic.

I basically agree with ur reasoning, we just need sufficient tests to catch the offenders.

If you think that's fun, try watch a Cricket Test Match.
