I still use my D-80 every day and have for 5 years now. It has been a great learning camera and I will upgrade to something more sophisticated when I learn as much as I can about the D-80 or when I wear it out completely. Whichever comes first. I am reading and learning as much as I can about the newer cameras and the technology incorporated therein so that I can make an educated decision when the time comes. It's all about choices.

What Audie said!
Concentrate on using what you have for a while.
The camera takes the photos.
It's the person behind the camera who MAKES the photos.

Audie, Thanks for the response. Makes sense to learn as much as possible before upgrading. I appreciate your post and comments. Have a Happy New Year...Tom

Sensi, Thanks for your response. I am knew to photography and plan to use the camera for family get togethers, landscape photos and my yellow lab. I will most likely keep the D80 for awhile and hope to learn as much with it as possible. I do plan on purchasing a 70-300mm lens to aid in those special effects. Thanks again, and Happy New Year.....Tom

Personally I hate changing lens. I have 70 -300 around that I never seem to use. You might want to consider an 18-270 or 28-300. Of course if you aren't walking around with the camera around your neck, in constantly changing conditions the 70-300 can be good option. I need a wider range.

I have a D3100 and I am with wilsondl2 you would not be upgrading to a D3100. The movies are not that great to begin with and the camera is very small. Go to your camera store and check it out. The D5100 has HDR capabilities as well as a movie setting with external mike, and a flip-out screen.
Don't take me wrong I LOVE my camera. I would like to get a D90 because it is a better camera but also I will then own a set. I can drag my D3100 to a lot places but the D90 would be strictly for photo shoots.
