I am thinking of upgrading my camera body. I shoot with a Nikon D300. Any suggestions?

I use and love both the d90 and the D7000. The D7000 is a wonderful camera and I do recommend it.

I use the 300s and 700 and am thinking the same.
Holding off until I see what the new cameras rumored to come out have. Needs to have video capabilities.
If id had to right buy now, it would be the 7000.

Check Nikon rumors.
D800 and a D4, I believe, are to be releases in March time frame. The D400 is expected to be announce after the D800 and the D4.

Thanks, Traveler
I thought and hoped it would be sooner.

I get so confused by the nikon numbers. Is the D800 better than the D700...D7000?

The D800 is the rumored replacement for the D700, both full frame sensors.

The 7000 is a "Crop sensor" camera with great image quality- was it the replacement for the D90? Can anyone confirm that? Eacy to get confused there

This is my understanding. Supposedly three new cameras on the horizon . . . . D4 replaces the D3 (FX), D800 replaces the D700 (FX) and the D400 replaces the D300 (DX).

I have to believe the new version of Capture NX will release soon after these cameras do. They have already ported it to 64-bit in version 2.3, which is currently available.

I think that the D7000 was a vast improvement of the D90. But replacement? Don't think so.

I have just been told by the guy in my local camera shop that there is going to be a delay in camera and lens releases due to the flooding in that part of the world. He had been told that Nikon had at least one of their factories still under water.
Has anyone else heard this or was he just blowing smoke?

No smoke. They are hurting in some areas, but expect to be back up to normal soon.
Follow Nikon rumors for the latest info.

Unless you REALLY need a camera now, I would certainly wait for whatever comes out this spring.

The naming is confusing if you are new to the party.
Here is the current and what we can figure will be the replacement:
D3 > D4
D700 > D800
D300 > D400
D7000 > D7100
328xi > 335xi oh wait, that's for BMW. Never mind.

I hope the D800 is not released too soon. I need to save up a bit. I have studied the D700 for over a year but it made no sense when comparing it to my D7000. The D800 will renew my NAS.

One of Nikon's main factories, where the D3s among others, is made was destroyed by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami last March.

I've been waiting a long time (over a year) for the replacent for the D700. The March that the salesman was referring to may have been March 2011. Let's hope some new models show up in March 2012!
