I try to download pictures from my D7100 into Lightroom 3 and blanks come up. There is a spot to create a DNG and I tried that way and it was giving me some kid of error. Love this new camera but I'm, getting very frustrated not being able to download into Lightroom or Elements 7. Can some one walk me through all the steps
Your camera is so much newer than your software that you have no RAW compatibility. You will need to upgrade your software or else use a DNG converter.
Not sure but don`t the pics go to my pics and then you have to import them into Lightroom ?
Have you tried putting the card in the reader instead of cable connection.
If I shoot in jpeg vs. raw will that work?

Yes, LR3 will process all your JPGs from the D7100 without issue.

Yes.
But you will lose all the advantages of a RAW file.
According to Adobe, you'll need at least LR 4.4 to be able to read the RAW files from your D7100.
What you could do, is download the *FREE* Nikon ViewNX, which has a file converter to TIFF which is another uncompressed format.
http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Imaging-Software/NVNX/ViewNX.htmlTIFF is not camera make/model specific.
I downloaded a trail version of Elements 11. I can now send my pictures that I have in photoshop out via Outlook express. I reformatted my memory card and started fresh and now I can't download from the camera to photoshop. I keep getting a message that the file is damaged or is in a format that cannot be included in Elements Organizer.

Where did you reformat the card? Camera or computer?
Computer reformat of a card should ALWAYS be followed by a camera reformat.
Can you see the pics in your camera's monitor?
How are you trying to download the pics?
By cable from the camera?
Plugging the card directly into a slot on your computer?
A separate card reader?
What does Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) show?
Especially what the file extensions are. NEF? JPG?
