Well, I have upgraded to a D800e and have a 12-24 Nikkor as new in its box that I could swap.

Oliver.

Have you tested it on your D800e? I had thought my 10-24 was having to go down the road when I got my D800. But I did some testing with it and feel it is fine.

In FX mode you get significant vignetting below 18mm but I find it fine from 18-24mm. Also you can use it in DX mode and then it is about the same as using it on the D7000 (in terms of MP) with the enhanced dynamic range of the D800. You can also use it on 8x10 format to a bit lower mm without significant vignetting.

Hi all...just got a d7000 & am looking for a great new DX Wide Angle lens for it. My 'old' 17-35mm 2.8 lens is fabulous...but is not compatible with the d7000. Please don't ask what I'm doing with the 17-35 2.8 in the first place...long story boring... Thanks.

Hi Gerry,
I have a D-7000 and use the Tokina 11-16 , perfect for what I need it for.

Indoor with existing light. This is an investment property we just purchased. This is the "Before" picture with the sellers stuff in there.

Taken with D7100 and Tokina 11-16 2.8.

Love my 12-14. Tack sharp if I have my "stuff" together when I push the button. I would have bought the 10-24 just for the added view but I don't think it was available when I made my buy. The 10-24 is about $280 more at B&H, so I suggest it comes down to how you intend to use it and your budget. Both will work well.

I recommend the 10-24 as well. They might now have one with VR. If so I'd get it...but mine without it is fine. It is just that I nearly always need to put it on a tripod because I'm using a polarizing filter on it and a high f-stop for landscape. To keep the ISO low means relatively long shutter speeds so you can't get sharp shots handheld. At least I can't.

I can still use it with my D800 as well although there are some restrictions doing so.

Here's some examples.

Wow, those are beautiful!

Here is an example of the results I obtain with the Nikkor DX 10-24mm VR zoom on my D7100. You should get similar results on the D7000.

Thanks, Len, this is now what I'm thinking...and I hear it's a great lens for the money & for my D7000. Thanks again to you & to all for their import, esp. Oliver......my 'due diligence' is almost over! Cheers, Gerry

In places like those it is hard to do bad but I think the 10-24 does and excellent job.

It does. I owned one however I like the Tokina better. To each their own. This wide is the only non-Nikon lens that I own. Good luck.

Ken Rockwell likes it too: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/11-16mm.htm

I was thinking about one of them but at the time I had a D5100 and they didn't have the one with the autofocus in the lens. The Nikon one came up used for about the same price. The older one should work fine with the D7000 though.

I am considering Tokina for their FX one.

I don't have any use for an f2.8, though. I only use it for landscapes and want f16 or higher. They might have an f4 one that is less expensive.

The Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is a great lens.See Ken Rockwell review...all most as good as the Nikon but $200 less per Ken R.

I owned the 12-24 Nikon and the Tokina is just as good. LOL
