Hi all...just got a d7000 & am looking for a great new DX Wide Angle lens for it. My 'old' 17-35mm 2.8 lens is fabulous...but is not compatible with the d7000. Please don't ask what I'm doing with the 17-35 2.8 in the first place...long story boring... Thanks.

If I shot a Nikon on a more regular basis, I'd have a copy of the: Nikon 12-24 f/4G ED IF AF-S DX

Well, I have upgraded to a D800e and have a 12-24 Nikkor as new in its box that I could swap.

Oliver.

I think you will find that that is wrong.
I thought all Nikon lenses from about 1959 onwards were compatible in some form and from about 1976 onwards were totally compatible.
I will go look for info to support this or disprove.

EDIT.
Make that 1977 onwards. for compatibility.

Hi Gerry. I have a D7000 & a D7100 & mainly shoot landscapes. My two WA lenses are a Tokina 12-24mm f4, & a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 (medium WA). Both are well made, tack sharp, & focus well. I am very happy with both of them. Earl.

The OP probably wants a wide angle zoom for a crop top camera. The 17-35 is not all that wide on a D7000. Whereas the 12 to 24 is probably the best DX zoom Nikkor going.

When I had a D7000, I used the Tokina 11-16mm. Very nice lens.

Since you're so fond of your 'old' 17-35mm 2.8, why not get another lens like that that IS compatible with your d7000?

He said he wants a DX wide angle lens. The 17 to 35 is NOT a DX lens. Sheez...

Hi Oliver, Thanks for understanding...& for the offer to swap two great lenses. A shame you're on the other side of the globe. I'm not sure that Adorama or B&H in NYC (I'm in CT) will do the same. What's the solution? Cheers, Gerry

Gerry.
I don't think its wide enough.
This question has been asked many times on here.
There are 4 or 5 main options.

My recommendation on price and quality.
Sigma 10-20mm 1:4-5.6 EX DC HSM

There is also a newer Sigma 10-20 F/3.5
Tokina 11-16mm
Tamron 10-24mm
Nikon 10-24mm

Personally I think that any of these will make you a happy man.
I see owners of every one of these happy to recommend to others. That extra 2mm is quite significant at the wide end of the lens.

And maybe you are interested in the Samyang - Rokinon 8 mm manual lens. Very sharp and as wide as it gets these days.
