I just updated my apple desktop to 10.8.4 OSX and I am still unable to view camera raw files from my nikon D7100 in the viewer. I can open them in elements raw but unable to view them first. If any one else has head this problem and has a resolution, I would greatly appreciate a solution. Thanks!

Which viewer are you talking about? iPhoto will show my raw files from my D3000.

I'm trying to view it in Apple Mac version 10.8.4 in preview. Not in Iphoto.

For me to view anything in preview mode I first have to download the file or files to desktop and then open the file from the desktop and when the preview panel comes up Choose dcim by double clicking it. The panel then shows the thumbnails and you pic the thumbnail by clicking on it and it then opens.

Yes,I've done that but it does not shoe the NEF files unless you click on them individually which launches Elements RAW. On my laptop, I can view NEF's and JPGs in preview without opening them in Camera Raw. I can't figure out what is the difference. Frustrating for sure.

Is the laptop an older computer than your iMac?

Do you have the latest software from both Nikon and Apple? For Apple, try using Software Update. Your D7100 should have come with software which you should install on your Mac. Check Nikon's website for any updates, or information about support of OS X 10.8.4.

I have an iMac from mid 2011 and a macbook pro from late 2011 and both of them open all photos in iPhoto unless I use the camera specific programs.

Camera raw files differ in format from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you don't have the current software from the manufacturer installed on your system, Aplle's Finder, iPhoto, etc., won't be able to display the raw image.

I finally figured it out. I had to buy Iphoto 11 in order to be able to install the Apple patch for Nikon. It took sometime on the phone with Apple to get this accomplished but I had run out of options.

Apple updated raw for the D7100 on May 31st.
Go to the App store and click on updates.

If you are using Lightroom, you may need to check for the newest camera raw update from Adobe Downloads. If you are using Aperture then got to the Apple Support site for Aperture or the App store and download there latest Raw extension. As the other respondents noted iPhoto should handle just about any Raw file.
