In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people

who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the art of capital

letters.

For those of you who fall into this category, please take note of the following

statement:

"Capitalisation is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse,

and helping your uncle jack off a horse."

Is everybody clear on that?

Some of my misspelling is nothing more than typing mistakes that I did not catch and the fact that I am not as smart as some people. Oh I do like the thought about the horse. I used thought here because I could not spell the word I wanted to use at the moment.

With all the talk about spelling and usage going on here, it's hard to believe that no one noticed that the word "capitalization" was spelled wrong!

Language and the spelling of it are forever evolving. We can't understand Medieval English and I daresay those living 1000 years from now will not be able to understand today's version of American English. One good example of changing notions is the fact that schools no longer teach cursive writing, except to teach the child how to sign his name. Will it matter in the long run? NO. Will changing the spelling of words matter? NO. Will changing a verb to a noun matter? NO. We are evolving and so is all around us evolving. Get on board or be left behind because all the wailing and gnashing of teeth is not going to change anything. Life moves on.

My my..... being 74 years of age, I learned long long ago to ignore the foibles of mankind and just enjoy life. If I were to worry about every error in spelling or grammar, I would probably go more batty than I am.

To those so disposed, please inform me if my punctuation and capitalization are correct in this missive and I will correct them if they are not. I would hate to be the cause of angst and anger.

That is the main cause for some of the the changes...Pure apathy.
Maybe you enjoy the changes, which would be your choice.
I don't have to.
I won't say I won't accept it. But I will scream, cuss and bitch and throw a tantrum all the way while the change takes place. I also know that the change is the only thing that is constant and it is unavoidable.
Yet I don't have to like it.

I look at the problem in this manner. If I can understand what is being discussed, I don't need to know if it is spelled correctly. I imagine that people are doing the best that they can. I read without moving my lips. so, should I complain about someone who does ? I learned from Nuns, to syllabify, but, they could never teach me grammar. So, I just muddle along, and hope others do the same.

The future of America was presented at my local library. A young child, 10-11 years old, was applying for his first library card. When he was asked to sign the application, he turned to his mother and said " I can't write my name". Her response was "I know, just go ahead and print it". Cursive has become a lost skill and no longer being taught in the schools. I just can't wait for the first planetary electromagnetic pulse that takes out our vaunted technology.

Do you care to be understood,or do you just want to make noise?
You may not care that other people have to struggle to make out what you say/write, but what is it saying about yourself?
You blame the education system? Or you take no responsibility to learn?
If you got marked down in school for incorrect English when writing about other subjects, shouldn't that be an incentive to start paying attention?
If you don't appreciate correct English, how can you appreciate great literature?

Appreciation of great literature and communication with other human beings are two entirely different enterprises requiring two different sets of tools.

lovesphotos; Don't be so sure is on study.
American may no longer have to carry your purchases home because the national postal service delivered everything on time for dinner. Deutsche Post has announced the services across the country by 2015.
The question arises as to how they will return the goods if not in the conditions shown on the internet, and what will make Walmart,CVS, Wallgrens, Sears, Home Depot, Brandsmart , etc with their employees. Increase in unemployment?
