My neighbor bought this camera at a flea market with the standard 55mm lens for $3. Knowing my interest in all thinks photographic, he gave it to me. I was checking it out and saw no wear on the film rails. Saw no wear on the mirror damping pad. No brassing anywhere. Then I couldn't believe I missed the sticker on the front advertising the latest feature of either Spot or Avg, metering. Meter didn't work, didn't expect it to because the battery must be long dead. Unscrewed the battery compartment and found the manufacturer's battery insulator still installed.
This 40 yr old camera is still new!
That is almost unbelievable!
I'd like a neighbour like that.
Those were great little cameras. I taught my daughter about photography on a 500TL.

The Mamiya Sekor 1000 DTL was my very first 35mm camera. I still have it sitting on my shelf here in my office with the original 55mm lens attached. I took many rolls of photos with that great camera. It still works great. You got a steal! Enjoy!

This Mamiya was my first slr. You could also use Pentax lenses with the camera. With both spot and averaging meters it was a wonderful camera to use and produced some fine results. I also still have it and the lenses I bought for it but haven't used it in years. The lenses were the older thread mount not bayonet mount of newer lenses. I used these lenses on a newer Pentax 35 mm with an adapter and manual settings.
Still have my old 500TL several lenses , bellows , and a Honeywell spotmatic from my film camra days . Good camras and still working .

My first SLR with a built in meter mine got lots of use about 275 rolls of film, lot of use with outside exposure. The meter uses a silver oxide cell not a mercury one.
The dual metering will require you to think about the lighting & which meter option you want to use.

Yep, it has the Pentax screw mount. There are many old lenses that would work on it.
I'm considering a pay forward and donating it to the Gila Co. Community College Photo Ed Department.

That was the first SLR camera I owned. It was the first company to have spot metering in the camera. I received it for my high school graduation present. it was a great camera.
