I took theses shots the end of June. By the 4th of July the babies were flying. They had 5 babies. Two didn't make it.

You've done a great job of documenting the lives of these Bluebirds!
First year mortality of passerines is very high. I read somewhere that for Cardinals it can be as high as 80%. Losses are due to lack of nutrition, predation, disease and misadventure (colisions, entrapments, etc). In order to offset these losses, many of our non-migratory birds can have 2 and ocassionally 3 clutches a year.
Thank you every one! I find I'm missing these birds! I'm hoping one will come back to nest again. The house has been cleaned and aired out. :)
