Lots of good choices out there. My son has a Sony nex with the larger sensor.
I just bought the Canon SX50 that I love. You can do lots of fun things with it.Vivid colors, miniaturize your photos, make your photo look like toys and more.
My DH has the Canon SX260. It has the GPS function but it uses batteries quickly.

Check the pictures in UHH that have been taken with the Canon SX50. I can't believe the quality coming from it. The following photos are straight from the camera without any touch up. Except for cropping.

So which is it? Your beloved or your wife? Just kidding, of course.

Thanks, will have a look , would ideally like to use a Nikon , member of the owners club etc and have managed to convince Rosemarie to come to an event this week!

Nikon just isn't on the same level as other Point-n-shoot brands. Sorry. Look at reviews here: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/digital_camera_and_lens_reviews.shtml

Like many others in this forum I favor Panasonic Lumix models for point-n-shoot. I have four and use them far more than my DSLR cameras.

For me the issue of using the LCD. screen in bright sunlight is a problem . If this presents a problem for your wife you might want to investigate cameras that have a viewfinder with some quality

Hi,

Rosemarie , my wife is getting more and more interested in photography.

However , she has some issues that mean a heavy camera is out of the question. A D5100 + 18-200 lens is just too much for her.

Have been looking at some of the high end P & S , like the Panasonic TZ40. Looked at the Coolpix, got confused. Features like GPS, a flip out screen and "point" at the object to focus on would be good .

No doubt this is not a new problem so can any of you Hoggers suggest a suitable camera for my dearly beloved (or my wife) ?

Thanks for your help.
Hi, br br Rosemarie , my wife is getting more and... (show quote)

Hammer, rather than "point" you in the direction of one camera, here are some websites that offer opinions about the best-rated P&S cameras made right now. Good luck!

Old and biased opinions about sensor size are still coming from the uninformed. New technology is providing great image quality from the super zooms at a fraction of the cost and weight of a DSLR (I own two). Go for a super zoom with flip out screen and viewfinder. My favorites are Canon.

I also have the Nikon Coolpix P510 and love it. At times it beats dragging around my heavier DSLR and I've gotten great photos and videos with it. How do you get a still image from a video with that camera? I have some great videos from the 4th of July and wanted to get a few still shots from it. Couldn't find any info online about it so I contacted Nikon, who told me it couldn't be done. Perhaps you know something the person who contacted me from Nikon doesn't? Please share.

This forum amazes me , you have posted your issue and a reply comes straight back. Very tempted with the P510 if only because I use Nikon DSLR,

I am happily married and have my wife's permission to say so!

Everyone has the right to be ugly but my wife abuses the privilege.

NOT a Canon SX40 as they are pathetically SLOW even with the fast memory cards.
