I bought a D600 new when it came out. I have had no serious issues with the camera. I should point out that I seldom change out the 24-120mm f/4 lens that pretty much lives on the camera but on those few occasions when I have, there have been no problems. That said, A couple of suggestions: Check the minimal focusing distance on the lens. Its easy to get in too close, out of the range; Check that you have not inadvertently hit the "AF/ M switch on the bottom left of the camera front. Its easy to hit when you hold the camera with your left hand; Check the M/A- M switch on the lens itself; Remove the lens and click it back into place, Make sure the lens and camera pin contacts are clean. I use denatured alcohol on a Q tip but make certain you don't leave a tiny strand of cotton behind; Change out your battery with a freshly charged one; blow out the camera body. If none of these steps cure your problem, call a Nikon Tech.

I once switched lenses in mid shoot and soon realized I was grasping the focus ring as I waited to Zoom! Dumb, yeh, possible yeh!

Do you have a focus limiter switch on the lens? If, what range is it set to, maybe you tried focusing outside that set range. Just another thought.

Can someone please help me. I have a Nikon D600 and was shooting with it yesterday and my lense quit focessing. When I press the shutter release it makes a very small focus sound and movement. It does not do a complete focus which makes it alot harder to do bokhe shots and takes alot longer. The problem is I dont know if I have accidently reset something or pushed a button unknowingly. The camera is only 7 months old so I hope it is not an internal issue. Would apprecuate any ideas or comments.
Can someone please help me. I have a Nikon D600 a... (show quote)

1. Did you change the focus actuation to the back button?
2. Did you turn autofocus off on the lens?
3. Did you turn autofocus off on the camera body?

A problem with the Matrix! Reminds me of Keanu Reeves. He had a similar problem.

Brandy,
First try cleaning the lens and body contacts with a Q-tip and a drop of alcohol. Then write down all of your menu settings and reset them to Factory presets by doing manual reset, removing the battery and replacing it in 30 seconds or so and then turning on the camera. Then go through your tests again to see if the problem goes away. If not, you are still on warranty so call NIKONUSA and ask for assistance. They will guide you through and find out what's wrong or ask you to return the camera body for repair. It's not advisable to use anything other than a manual blower bulb for removing dust from the inside of a D600.

I just wanted to say thanks so much for all of the help and insight on my D600. Somehow I assigned the auto focus to the fn button on the lower right hand side. Im not sure how I got it back to normal except I took everything apart and batery out and everything yall said to do. I have so many things to learn about this camera so I hope you dont mind plenty of questions in the future...lol...it has definately set my mind at ease knowing Im not going to have to have it fixed. I'm still learning so hopefully I can become a luttle more familiar with all the options and settings...thnx again

Same thing happened to me the other day. I had accidentally switched to manual focus.
