Just did. I retired all my SLR Canon & Nikons. Bought a LEICA V-LUX-4. Looks like a small, 18" oz., SLR, which includes a 25-600mm, Constant f2.8 lens. Superb images. Comes with Lightroom 5. You can buy a Panasonic LUMIX
FZ200, same lens but does not come with Lightroom 5, for a few hundred bucks less. I just retired professionally and this is all I need. Look into it.
You will be glad you did. Good Luck.

You don’t have to sacrifice quality to save weight. Just don’t rule out film as a viable option. When you are spending well over $10k on an overseas vacation for two, the cost of film is not an consideration.

To carry around for overseas travel I have trimmed down to a Leica M6, a Zeiss Ikon and three lenses, total weight less than six pounds including two external meters.

Image quality with good film and Leica or Zeiss lenses is much better than most digital P&S cameras. When even more resolution is called for I take along a Rolleiflex TLR (3 pounds).

Maybe they will finally lower the prices for them as they should have done years ago!

about 80x4=320, plus developing and paper~80x10=800.

800 + 320 = 1120, no thanks.

Digital rocks !!!

Gave all to the kids and am now considering either a SX50 or a G15.

Also, I have found that just taking a walk is once again enjoyable!

This question appears every so often. Felt it was time...again.
Has anyone trimmed all their camera gear down to a P&S as their #1 go-to camera? Have you gotten rid of all of the cameras and lenses, and now resort to the simpler life of ONE, one piece, camera?
This thought occurs to me often, but haven't had the guts to flip the switch yet. I currently have 4 cameras.
DSLR + 3 lenses: 15-85, 50 1.8, 70-200 f4
SX50 HS
SX230 (14X zoom..pocket size)
XZ-1 (4X zoom w/ 1.8 aperture..pocket size)
If I would really spend the time and make an effort to get the very most that I could from a single camera, I think I could do it.
But I'd like to hear if any of you have wrestled (successfully or unsuccessfully) with such thoughts and/or actions.

Yes Bob, I have. I use only the SX-50 now. Great relief, carrying only the one camera. It does all I need now. I only shoot for fun now. Great camera.

I sold off my 7D, and some good lenses, and now have an SX50, which is so far not making me regret anything. I am amazed at the photos I'm getting with the SX50.

...... Fuji has developed a new sensor for their SLR line, it is a vast improvement over sensors available up to now. The new sensor does away with the low pass filter that inherently introduces blur, albeit very minor, it is still a blur. Their new sensor has 29 stops of dynamic range .......
Yeah, right ...

In answer to the original question, no chance!

I don't shoot anywhere close to that many pictures on a 2 week vacation. I am much more deliberate and discriminating than if I were shooting digital.

I would rather enjoy the trip while I am there rather than wait until I return.

I develop my own B&W and have my color stuff developed by a lab. And I scan my negatives and print from the scans so that part is no more expensive than if I started with digital.

I will trim down to a camera phone as soon as it has the following capabilities:

* 15 frames per second.

* 9-250mm lens, F1.2 through focal range.

* 50-200,000 ISO.

* continuous video autofocus equal to performance of professional quality dedicated video camcorder.

* under $200.

15 frames per second for what? really, that's ridiculous!
9-250mmF1.2 and you have this lens now, WOW, once again ridiculous.

50-200,000 ISO because you what, walk around inside buildings in the dark?

Just bought a new camera with ISO 400 max.
Sigma dp3m.

And your point about a phone was what? ............
