A few years back I was doing some video of my sons baseball league. The camera cost about $1200. Put it in the car - back seat floor - so that I could get back to coaching. When we were leaving the field, the car was broken into $500 in glass - camera stolen. Happens all the time. We are all paying more and more for Cameras in this digital age, and protecting this investment is becoming paramount. So I want to hear for folk on what tactics are being taken to hang on to our stuff. Thanks!

Good camera insurance as cover, however, the only protection my gear has is ME, MYSELF AND NO ONE ELSE, if I'm out and about with my gear, it does not leave my side, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I NEVER leave camera gear in the car, the camera gear is worth more than the car.

thank you for the link found it very interesting was not aware of this product
--I always used to cover equipment with blanket or something bulky so the shape was not able to be seen or than that I never had equipment in car. Always had it with me but with coaching you can not keep it at your side

If you don't have a trunk, keep a Coleman cooler in your car - it will provide thermal protection for your gear and will prevent some jerk just walking by casing cars from seeing that you have valuable equipment. And of course - get insurance coverage. It is not expensive.

Best protection is Smith and Wesson.

If you shoot or severely injury a thief you may save your gear and end up doing time with the thief suing you. Most states, with Texas being an exception, do not allow deadly force to protect property. The law now a days seems to find a way to make the thief the victim and the victim the bad guy. I personally keep my camera/lens and bag with me. I NEVER leave it unattended. A thief can not steal what is not there.

I do not know about your area but in many places people have got so use to hearing alarms on cars they are completely oblivious and ignore the alarm and thieves know this. According to a Police Officer I spoke with alarms will not stop most professional thieves.
Again I believe the best thing is to keep your camera in your possession.

It's easy! Make sure your car is locked and buy a replacement
policy that will replace no matter what happens. Low cost on your homeowners.
