My father sent me the link to this forum and suggested I check it out. My name is Jessica and I live in upstate NY ( a relocated Navy move from my hometown San Diego.) I have a Cannon 60 D with an ef 24-105 mm lens. I have an external flash which I never really use often because it tends to over expose my shots. lol I don't really know how to control the flash yet and it has a mind of it's own. Unless it's a spur of the moment type thing and I don't want to screw up the pic I have take pics in manual. Sometimes I get it- other times I don't. And sometimes I know why it worked and other times it's pure luck lol So learning...
I am looking forward to learning from all of you and getting advice from you all! Any advice you have on any of my pics would be awesome. I can't improve without it!
Here is a pic of the youngest of my three kids I took yesterday. Alden is showing his team spirit :)
HEY! He has the same haircut as me! Are you in west coast to east coast shock? My Dad was a career Marine- so I know the name of that tune!
Hey you picked a POPPIN' first pic to post! (Be thankful your behind your monitor). Your Canon looks to be nailing it! Look around in your menu for your flash setting, you should be able to adjust it through a fairly large range. I prefer natural light, low light stuff- but one of these days I'll mess around with some strobes, there is plenty to be learned!
I like light (flash) when you can't tell it's light. NY has some beautiful places (and snow). The Catskills, the City- your gonna have A BUNCH to keep you busy! Here's hoping you won't miss home to bad, and hope to see more of your work!
Super photo. Lovely bright colors, nice background, great focus, sweet expression, the gold color flowers in the back are perfect with the color of the shirt,...what more could one ask for?
RParker: Definitely has east coast shock when we moved! never even saw it snow till three years ago and our first winter in NY. And boy, did I see snow that year lol. Think I'll leave the white stuff to the east coast and head back to the sun ASAP. you know, it's nice to visit- not to live in it. ITA about a light flash that you can't notice. I think i need a bigger better external flash. Currently, we "need" boring stuff, like diapers, more. *sigh*
Mommy: Wow- thanks for the compliments! lol
Only thing I could see to improve would be to put the boy in a Detroit Lions shirt...LOL
Love the picture. I love taking pictures of my children they are so innocent.
Go Chargers! Great little charger fan you have there. I live in San Diego area (East County) where the weather is fantastic about 90% of the time... sorry for teasing. May I suggest you read up on your cameras setting for external flash. Learn to control flash output from your cameras "ISO selection/Flash Exposure Compensation button" and the Main Dial. Also a diffuser helps a bunch. Practice with your flash if you get it right you'll only improve your photos. Good luck.
You do realize that in a few years Alden will probability take up soccer and tell you that he is moving to Spain to play real football...right? You do realize that ... don't you? And when he tells you that you should tell him "Right after you finish pre-med." He is a very cute young man.
