Tried last year with some success but hope to get better pics this year. I have just purchased the new Nikon D7100 and was wondering if anybody had some suggestions on what lens, settings, etc., to use to get the best fireworks pictures. If you have some samples of your, that would be nice. Thanks.

There's a lot of advice you can find in Internet.

If you click the Search button at the top of the page and enter the word "Fireworks" it will provide you with a long list of links including Main Discussion-where you will find camera settings, etc. and Photo Gallery where you can see Fireworks photos. UHH members offer a great wealth of information!

Use a Sorts setting, or high speed shooting?

Here's one of mine:
- F 5.6
- ISO 50
- Manual setting, Bulb, 4 Seconds
- Lens 20 mm

I forgot to mention a tripod and shutter release cable.

What I'd like to know is why we're getting so many questions about fireworks all of a sudden. It's been months - maybe even a full year - since we've had so many questions like this. Maybe it's just the hot weather. :D

You're joking right Jerry? The 4th of July may play a big part in so many questions.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

You want to drag the shutter to get the 'bloom', not capture only a small part of the experience.

Capturing fireworks can produce surprising results,
some of my favorites were unintended consequences.

Squiggles happen when you don't use a tripod.

Going up and coming down. Just blind luck.

Try to see what direction the wind is blowing. Also, the early photos will be your best chances. Sometimes the smoke gets very thick and takes over the image.

They certainly do, but it's too far for me to travel. I'll watch them on TV Thursday night.

Wayne you don't know Jerry by now? He lives up there in Gods country, and don't get out much, he's a regular Ridney Dangerfield, gave the man some respect, ( foe those more sensitive, I'm joking)
