Anyone have good or bad experiences with this strap? I am not sure of the security. Should I trust it with my d7000 and 18-300 lense attached? Thanks for any feed back!

Love mine. Use it with my 50-500mm sigma - but attach it to the tripod ring on lens not camera body

I use the Black Rapid sports strap with my D7000. So far I have no complaints with either security or easy of use.

I have been using mine for over three years with everything up to a 70-200 f2.8. I totally recommend it

I love the sling straps. I have a Black Rapid, but when I began reading some of the misadventures of people who had their tripod socked pulled out by the weight of the camera, I bought an Op Tech. It attaches to one of the camera's strap lugs, or both if you want to. The lug is designed to hold the weight of the camera, whereas the tripod socket is only designed to hold the camera in place on top of a tripod and not meant to carry the weight of the camera when suspended upside down.

I've had my Black Rapid several years now and carry an A850 with battery grip (total of over 2.5 lbs) and variety of lenses including the Zeiss 16-35 f2.8 which weighs in at about 2 lbs. I've never had a problem, don't know anyone who has had a problem, nor have I seen any loosening of the bushing/threads in the camera. Good luck!

I would never trust anything that screws into the tripod bush, there have been comments here and GOOGLE of people hearing and feeling their precious gear crash to the ground because it came undone, oh well lugs are on cameras for a reason

If you do want one

1. Tighten fully
2. Check every use

I have one and I like it. I got it because the weight of the camera around my neck bugged me when I am walking around. I check it often as suggested above though because I too have read some who have experienced problems. But so far, I have not.

You need to secure it properly, check the tightness occasionally, and if you want to be extra careful attach a separate tether from the left strap lug to the ring of the carabineer that the strap goes through.. The tether does not restrict the movement of the camera on the strap but it does provide a fail safe in the event you haven't tightened the carabineer correctly or it loosens over time. Three are number of examples of tethers use for this purpose. Google should be able to find them easily.

That's me....I can not stand the weight around my neck. that is why I got the black rapid but have hesitated on using it because I saw some bad reviews and was thinking of returning it. But, I think it is like hot coffee at McDonald's just use a little common sense by checking it often and I am ocd when it comes to stuff like that.

I really appreciate everyone's comments!

I have a BlackRapid RS-7 for my μ4/3 gear, but I would never suspend the weight of a full size camera and heavy lens by the tripod socket. OpTech has a similar sling that secures the strap to the camera strap lugs.

I agree, an extra link from the camera lug to the fixing on the tripod bush is a good belt and braces protection. I have the Carryspeed strap which is also fixed to the tripod bush. Here is the photo of how I did it:

Hi Kimkaye,

I love mine but based on some comments on UHH I also attach a short strap from the base plate to one of the camera strap anchors. Take care & ...
