I recently sent my Canon 30D and several lenses to Adorama for a quote to sell. Has anyone ever dealt with them and are they fair?

I have had no problem with Adorama in dealing with high or low price items. However, Amazon has a very good system where they will advetise and find clients for your used equipment. You do not need to ship the equipment to Amazon; once sold, you will receive a prepaid shipping lavel to the person who bought it and Amazon will send you a check (less a small percentage) for the price you specified. I have used their system, but it only works with items that Amazon normally handles (cameras, lenses, etc.)

I have sold lots on eBay. Most of the time you can list for nothing. You can set the minimum bid. All you have to lose is the time spent listing it. You may want to look and see what you are selling sales for. - Dave

Why not sell on Amazon? You'll get a much wider audiance.

I have dealt with Adorama twice on trade-ins. I one case I got what I expected, and in the second case I got MORE than I expected.

I've been dealing with Adorama for the better part of forty years, and have never had occasion to be unhappy with them. Others might not agree, but this is my personal experience.

Adorama certainly is a reputable dealer. However, no camera company will pay you an amount equal to what you might get on eBay or Craig's List. A dealer just cannot do that and make money.

Craig's List may have moved your stuff in hours instead of weeks.

With a camera that is in demand like the 30D you will do wonderful on eBay by setting the starting bid at 99 cents with no reserve, include many good detailed photos of the camera with a complete honest description of any scratched areas, shutter count, etc... There is always a slim chance you could end up selling the camera for way less than you hoped but it's not likely with this camera given the current auctions (see link below).

If you search eBay you'll notice cameras that start with a low price get sold while items with a starting bid at or near the reasonable sale price often don't sell at all even though they may be a good deal. People like to bid in the hopes they get an even better bargain, it's kind of fun to watch...

Don't bother with Adorama....what they offer to buy equipment for is a joke. Yes shipping is free both ways but try Craigslist. Or just give it away which is what you will be doing with Adorama.

Such great feeback from so many of you; thank you so much!

I've copied your comments over to Mark at Adorama TV, to the used department and to the head of Customer Service; I know that they'll all be delighted to share your kind words with their respective team members.
