My first digital camera was a Sony Mavica, which used the old 3.5-inch "Micro Floppy Disk" for initial image storage. And at that time, some internet company was mailing floppy disc intro programming to just about everybody. My apartment complex had 90 units, so near the communal mailbox location, I placed a cardboard box for unwanted discs. Within weeks, I had scores of them. I never had to buy capture media for my Mavica.
Ah yes the Mavica. One of my first, I remember taking it on a trip to Hawaii, along with several boxes of disks. One the hardest lessons I ever lad to learn about digital photography was with one of those. ALWAYS, check to make sure your image size is being recorded as large as possible. One of the best photos I have ever taken was with that camera, but it will never be any larger than a 3 x 5.
I remember now, that it was AOL who mailed out thousands of 3.5-inch discs, introducing their e-mail program. I still have several score discs, and no method of downloading.

At least the 3 1/2" disc could be used for something. When they went to DVDs, they became throw-aways.
