Welcome Rob!
It's good to have another Pentax DSLR user here. I, too still have some film SLR's (Pentax, of course) I have a K10d and love it!
The fireworks shot looks awesome, keep them coming. Do you know about the Pentax Forum, there is a lot of similar good stuff there. Again, Welcome to the hog!
Thanks, I will check out the Pentax forum. I have been receiving the daily e-mailed newsletter for about 3 years now and that is about all I have read.

Welcome Highplains Coyote, stunning pics. Hope we see lots more like these. Cheers, Jean.
Thank you Nancy. Very kind compliment.
I will post a few more fireworks. I don't have many that are really what I'd call keepers.

Greeting from the highplains of eastern Colorado.
My name is Rob.
I have been lurking around Ugly Hedgehog for at least three years and have learned much more from the posts I read in the daily newsletter than I have learned in all the books I've read on photography. There are some really knowledgeable photographers here.
I have been trying to take pictures for over 25 years when my dad gave me a new Pentax K1000 for Christmas. I purchased several lenses (Pentax 50mm f 2.8, Tamron 135mm f 2.5 and a cheap zoom which II dropped and broke years ago). I hadn't used this camera for nearly 10 years as the cost and lack of places to process film.
I convinced my wife to let me purchase a Pentax K10 for Cristmas 2011. Bought a used one with two lenses (Tamron 28-80 mm zoom f3.5 and a Tamron 70-300 mm zoom w/macro f4). I also use my old Pentax lenses on my DSLR and find they produce much nicer photos than the zooms.
Sorry for rambling on and on.
I am looking forward to learning more here at Ugly Hedgehog.
Feel free to critique the photos I have attached. Just remember I am the Highplains Coyote, but I don't bite......all that hard.

Welcome openly to the hog, Rob....It has been a while, but glad you decided to "come out." As for your post,
#1 You got a nice clean shot of the fireworks. No blur, no camera jiggle....good shot.
#2 Very nice capture of the one-antlered deer. You filled the frame out very nicely....good shot.
#3 Lightning...superb, is all i can say. The plains stretch out to the horizon. The houses on the horizon are below the center, which points up the sky. BUT.....your capture of the lightning burst is really so good!!!!
You did real good on all three shots. Looking forward to seeing more. I even enjoy your avatar...very cute.

Welcome to UHH. Your first posted images show talent and skill and I know they"ll just get better.
Welcome, HPC! Your fireworks shot is great, but I think I like the deer better.
Welcome. Very nice photos, and I look forward to seeing more of your work. Glad you have learned a lot on the forum and also glad that you have decided to start posting.
Welcome and enjoy.
Good firework shot
