I like the CLIK Elite bags. Well build, rain fly, fabric lining. The pro sport is a medium size backpack with room for lunch. It aslo has the features of a sling. Great bag.

I have the same, Lowepro 250. It is great for travel, just the right size for airline carry-on second bag. You do have to take it off and lay it down to access the camera. No consideration for tripod carry but still a comfortable weight distribution

Very, very nice. An option to consider if you can get away with something smaller or manage a smaller budget:

I have the Lowepro Fastpack 250. The lower compartment holds lots of camera gear, and the upper section can hold ... whatever. I just ordered a Lowepro Pro Runner 350. It's a bit larger, without the upper section for ... whatever.

Backpacks work for me ... even loaded up. Weight is distributed evenly so hiking long distances is comfortable. They offer peace of mind given they accommodate camera, lenses, spare batteries, hoods, etc. (I had a sling bag, but my equipment was too heavy on one shoulder.)

+1 Don't use a sling pack for hiking. It does not distribute weight well.

For longer hikes - Go to you local REI or backpacking store and find a daypack that feels good. Then order one or two Mountainsmith Kitcubes. The Kitcubes hold cameras and lenses and slide right down into the larger daypacks. I bought a couple at B&H for $17.99 each.

The one thing I did not like about the Fastpack is that the tripod carrier is on one side causing the weight to be lopsided. The Flipside (500) tripod carrier is centred on the back giving more even weight distribution.

If you are looking for a true hiking backpack look at the Deuter brand. I use one when I go into the backcountry. Also Trekpak makes inserts for the Deuter Freerider (http://trekpak.com/mens-freerider-pro-30).

Z, actually packs have been discussed on the Hog at length several times before. Use the SEARCH feature and you will probably find many more pages of recommendations and info. Possibly even in the " frequently asked questions", Nikonian does a very good job of putting reference material together. Good luck

Yes, but JR, wouldn't you have to be shaped a little bit like a mule to carry all that ? You know, one on each side and two on your back? Or at least own a mule?!! Or be married to Bertha?
