What am I doing wrong, flash or no flash?

First time using the pop up flash and a slave. The camera is the Canon T3 1100D and the slave flash is a TT560 THINKLITE speedlite, off band I believe. When I try to take a photo with the slave and pop up the pop up flashes as you focus. This causes the slave to fire, is there anything I can do to stop this. The slave has settings M, S1 ans S2. Any and all help will be appreciated.

You need to turn off the red-eye reduction flash feature. You will find it under menu (I think the first sub-menu section).

Sounds like CanonsÂ’ T3's Flash Exposure Lock function, which fires the flash under manual control before the actual exposure, to determine the proper exposure setting.

The S1 and S2 are the slave modes. On S1, it will flash along with the first flash. On S2, it will flash with the second flash- ignoring the per flash.

????? sorry I wasn't being sarcastic, there was no need for a picture, the op explained his issue and it was solved a picture was not needed to show that the the red eye reduction flash was firing and triggering his slave flashes. plus a picture really would not have shown the issue.
