Fine Art Photography Not Recognized EQUALLY As A True Art Form - Let's Talk

I decided to bring this up for discussion, my concerns and comments on this subject are from direct personal experiences and observations. Within the last 8 months, I have had the honor of being jury selected in several art exhibitions and thrilled to have been chosen in a national awards series for emerging artists ( oil , acrylic paintings, sculpture, and photography ) sponsored by a worldwide famous distillery company.
This latest distinction has been the highlight of my photography career which has been a result of self teachings.
In ALL, the events, the semi-finalist, finalists and winners, photography was well under represented in comparison to the classics forms of art. My non-scientific calculations show photography is represented at or about 10% - 20% for every event I have attended or been a participant of.
That being said, I am seriously preparing a marketing presentation for galleries. I realize there are galleries who specialize exclusively in photography, however they seem to be very ' clickish ' meaning, if you don't know the 'right' person, you don't have a chance to get your foot in the door.
So, I am forced to address your conventional galleries, I am not going to approach them with my observations of inequality towards photography but can someone give me some advice or if you do not have advice, please comment on the topic and your thoughts or observations.
Thanks...

Depends in where you go.

Cliques are normal in all forms of art (and elsewhere, for that matter).

Persistence is the only answer. If you can spare the time and money, go to Arles in the south of France, the biggest gathering of 'fine art' photographers in the world. See http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/arles%202010.html (2010), http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/arles%202009.html (2009), http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/arles%202008.html (2008). You might also care to take a look at http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/ps%20art.html for an overview of art and photography, the fruit of years of observation.

Cheers,

R.

I love it!! I would have loved it more in 1970. But then I've always been outside the box.

EyeArt,

Your work is good and that is all that matters, don't be put off by certain galleries being "clickish" but send them your presentation anyway, you may be pleasantly surprised and if not, what did you lose by trying?

I grew up in the 60's, back then your photo would have caused a panic. Next thing I need you to know is that I'm taking morphine for pain. Now you have enough info.
When I first saw your photo, it really threw me. It appeared to be moving. After I took my meds, It was moving. A great throwback to the psychedelic era that I really enjoyed. Jimi Hendrix would have been proud. I love your photo. Ken

Love the image - the colors, the randomness of design. Several images I captured - don't think they are "fine art", but...

(they are the inside of marbles, bye the way)

Ken,
Wow, what great comments, thank you for taking the time, it is so meaningful to me to receive critique....I am trying to expel the demon of ' self doubt '.
Thanks again,
Eye Art
