I don't know anything about RAW in Gimp but there is a very easy tutorial for Gimp on this forum. Go to the top of this page and in the blue find,'SEARCH' click on it and in the window put 'Gimp make Easy' go down the list and find the one that Sharkey did. It is similar to those Teach Yourself Visually books. Good luck

I just went to Shakey's tutorial. It is wonderful. I will start learning how to use this immediately. Ugly Hedgehog is one incredible resource of information. Information made easy, I might add.

Thank you, Ceil

It has a learning curve, but is not hard to use. My suggestion would be to find a book or YouTube series to get you going.
Depending on what you are doing though there are easier photo editors available.

Thank you for your advice. I currently use Lightroom and am happy with what it does. It's just that there are others things I would like to experiment with, but I just can't afford Photoshop CS. Oh, by the way, I do have Elements 10 installed, but have not tried working with that yet. Do you also have suggestions about Elements?

Thank you. Ceil

If you understand Lightroom then GIMP will fit right in.

I use GIMP under Linux, for RAW it uses an application called UFRAW which you can adjust colour temp, exposure etc. then it opens the image for further editing in GIMP.
GIMP itself can't handle RAW images.

The GIMP is a really comprehensive editing program, and there are freely downloadable file filters for most RAW file formats. There is also a pretty vigorous user group, so check there. They're friendly folks, and will help you out. Remember, Google is your friend!

Since GIMP does not process RAW, and if you shoot Canon, you may just want to use the Canon processing program that came with your camera, or download it from the Canon website. It is a powerful program that will edit the RAW image, and convert it to JPEG, for import into any editing program.
