There are a few ducks and geese at a lake near me and I save bread in my freezer until I can go there to feed them and take pictures.

Have you tried feeding them cracked corn instead? They eat that too. And the bread crumbs attract seagulls and the seagulls attack the baby ducks. There are signs at one of our parks. So I go to the farm supply store and buy cracked corn for about $10 for 50# bag. It also feeds the birds around my house.

Here are the greater and lesser scaup, and then a few 'hoodies' (hooded mergansers)

I think the lesser scaup are greater than the Greater Scaup, but the hoodies are greater than the Lessers but the " OH heck I love them all!

That's pretty funny!

Opps, this is a Long-billed Dowitcher not an Avocet. Sorry for the wrong ID. povfdov

Beautiful picture of a beautiful bird. I misidentified a Dowitcher as a American Avocet. They are like night and day from each other. The Avocet is much more striking. povdov

All excellent! What lenses were used? These are very sharp and the feather detail, perfect!

Wildman, I guess you are speaking of my birds? In a string it is hard to know who is referring to what. So if you were speaking of mine then thank you so much. 300 mm canon prime. povdov

My hubby hunted when he was young, but is the same way, now cannot kill anything. My brother-in-law once owned the largest waterfowl farm in the USA. He had every kind of duck you could imagine. I loved the Hoodies, Ruddy ducks and the Baikel (sp) ducks AND the Black Neck Swans.
Great photo

Wow, that sounds like a dream place to photograph water fowl![/quote]

A real good place is around the town of Stuttgart in east central Arkansas - called the "rice and duck capital of the world." Eastern Arkansas has a lot of rice fields and the ducks love it in that area - if you're seriously looking. Google it.
